London Post No. 2 - January 2nd

Jan 02, 2010 18:42

What an exhausting day. It's not even 06:00 pm and I'm dead tired already.
Take a look at the cut to read about my first day in Great Britain...

London, January 2nd 2010

Due to my early flight I had to get up at 03:40 am. Around 04:50 am I left home and arrived at the airport around approximately 05:15 am.
Firstly I handed in my luggage which weighed around 23,5 kg, afterwards I checked in, went through the security check and boarded on the aircraft. Because of an heavy snow storm we started around 07:00 am instead of 06:50 am. During the flight I mostly slept. The landing was terribly shaky and ungentle.

From London-Stansted I took the Express Train to Tottenham Hall where I changed trains and got into the Victoria Line heading for Victoria Station.

At Victoria Station I managed to get myself an oyster ticket for both railway and underground for the upcoming seven weeks which was terribly expensive.
After nearly boarding on a wrong railway train for two times I finally managed to find the one I needed. I dislike these railway train plans already. They're terribly confusing and difficult to read.

After 15 further minutes I finally arrived at Streatham Common which is in the west of London, between Wonsworth and Wimbledon. I inhabit a nice and spacious house in Barrow Road together with Michelle who is my hostmother and originally from France and Amy who comes from Taiwan and stays here to study pharmacy.

On the following pictures you can see both my room and my bathroom next to it.

Of course I'll post pictures of the rest of the house as well.

Having arranged my room I left the house to go shopping at the nearby supermarket called Sainsbury. I bought water, toast, noodles, etc. and carried the super heavy bags back to the house where my laptop sustained damage due to the weird electricity systeme here. I wasn't able to start Windows anymore.
Due to the fact that I could not solve this problem on my own I immediately packed up my stuff and went to a computer store I had concidentally seen on my way to the supermarket. The half-German half-Polish employee solved the problem within 15 minutes and I returned home happily...

Tomorrow I'll do some sightseeing in the city centre of London! :)
