I'd done my part before taking off. Hugged Fred, clouted Wesley on the shoulder, given everyone a proverbial pat on the back before leaving them all in the lobby. I hated to admit it, but I was exhausted. Contrary to popular belief, dying really took a lot out of you. I just wanted to sleep... I could take care of all the drama in the morning. Call Nina and straighten things out with her, then maybe smooth things out with Cordy if she'd let me.
Right. Cordelia probably wasn't going to let me near her. She couldn't be happy about the Nina development, and it was no use lying to her to try and cover my tacks. She'd watched it all from that higher plane of hers. She knew everything I'd said, everything I'd done.
I hope she didn't think that Nina had been a replacement for her... that wasn't the case at all. It was just...
Nevermind. I didn't want to think about it now. Sleep. Sleep was my top priority. I'd be able to process thought better in the morning.
I reached the second-floor landing at the top of the stairs, then paused with my hand still on the banister when I heard noises coming from the nearest elevator. I eyed the doors, which didn't look like they had any intention of opening.
What the...?
"Uh....oh yes...yes...you're the real champion Spike!"
"Yeah, luv, I'm the real champion."
... Cordelia and Spike? Cordelia and Spike?
Well, my day was just getting better and better. I hesitated before heading over to the elevator, quickly covering the distance with long strides. What was I supposed to say? Ask them if they were having sex in my elevator? It was clear that they were. Nevermind the fact that it just flew in the face of any kind of common sense. Bracing myself, I reached up to knock on the door.
Lame, even for me.
"Hey! What's going on in there?"
