Yeah first post in years...
But I figured possibly the best way to let those to who it concerns know. About seven years ago I turned up to a Nottingham alternative birthday party with a present recently acquired from my trip to Japan. Choya Umeshu.
It was the vaguely plum like alchoholic drink which had the fruit bobbing in it.
Well you can now get the stuff in the UK. It ain't cheap - it's £20 a pop for a wine bottle volume container. There's only one importer, but at least you can get the bloody thing now.
It also now has English labels. Turns out there is no translation of Ume - the Ume fruit is a particularly type of unripe plum only grown in Japan. The drink is achieved by steeping them in rice wine. The cheap stuff is six months, but the Choya one is twelve years. No bloody wonder they charge an arm and a leg for it. Still, it's probably my all time favourite drink - and was rather popular back at that party. Hence me letting the relevant people know you can know buy the stuff.
