Just been one of the un-calmest I've been in a long while. Given there's been several events over the last week that should have shattered the genial facade, what could it possibly be that set me off?
Radio One's Chris Moyle's show, specifically Comedy Dave (who's the smartest of the bunch) and his tedious link. You don't have to know what that is - just that he mentioned the battle of Stanford Bridge in 1066 of King Harold versus Harald Hardrada the Viking.
As is usual after the link, Chris Moyles picks holes in it. This time he had a go predictably that Harold fought the Normans in 1066. Fair enough, the battle of Stanford Bridge isn't anywhere as famous. Alled, the show assitant monkey goes to the BBC website to check it out and loudly proclaims that the website says Harold did indeed fight the Normans in 1066 so Dave was wrong. And Chris and Alled are all very smug because they think they've shown Dave up - after all the internet doesn't lie does it?
Dave was trying to explain that Harold fought two battles in 1066 one right on top of the other. But they're not listening. To be fair neither was I, as by this point I am raving at my radio about the stupidity of humanity.
Every child in this country was taught about the invasion of 1066, and a pretty major part of that is the battle of Stanford Bridge preceeding it. But aside from that - for heaven's sake when did we get to the point that it is accepted wisdom that what ever the internet spits out is the definitive truth? The propensity for websites to be just as biased as their creator aside, the accuracy of a web search is only as good as the specifics the user puts in. Put rubbish in, get rubbish out.
And that got be seething.
I swear I'm not right at times.
