Japan Part 1

My first week in Japan!
This country is even more amazing than I had originally thought.
We have a Shinto Shrine not a block away from our school, which is really cool.
I have also learned for the very first time what it really feels like to be in a minority group.
The stares and the whispers I can tolerate, but when random people walk up and try to speak to you in english, it gets mildly annoying. Next week I get to go to an elementary school and talk to the class about American culture. Not quite sure what I'm going to talk about yet. We get a translator so that should be fun. Class thus far has proven to be very easy in comparison to Lewis & Clark. We don't even have to write compositions in Japanese class. The food makes it all worth it however, as I have yet to have anything more delicious in my life. (Well maybe those two weeks in Italy) On the second day I had the freshest and most tender Unagi that I have ever eaten. I've also had the opportunity to sample the various flavored breads that they have here. Melon Bread is the shit. My host family is very nice, though they hardly speak ten words of english. Fortunately I speak enough Japanese to get my requests across and have some conversations with them. Now I'm about to head into downtown Sapporo to meet with the other exchange students and explore the city a bit. Thus far, this has really been a lot of fun!
