It had been a hard summer, and nothing like the idyllic childhoods Hermione remembered before Hogwarts. Sure, she'd had a few before things got really bad, but she hadn't had a nice, normal holiday with her parents since she was thirteen. Crookshanks liked exploring the hospital. There were more places to go, and it lacked a certain kitten who clearly needed to learn the rules. Not going after Shakespeare was basic.

He was just wandering around at this point, when he smelt it. Hermione's scent. He'd know it anywhere.

Quickly he followed it and sure enough, there she was. She didn't look very good, and he headed to her side. Hermione! he meowed.

Hermione was pale and sweaty and it felt like her stomach was swimming with nargles, whatever they were. Still, at the sound of Crookshanks she looked up, even managing a weak smile.

"Crookshanks. Happy to see you...could you find a mediwizard? Or a doctor? I've been tortured," she managed, turning her head and cupping her mouth to keep from vomiting.

Hermione looked really bad. He nuzzled up against her and purred for a minute, then meowed, I'll find someone.

"There there, Crookshanks. I'm quite all right. I just need tea or a potion," Hermione promised, taking comfort from his soft, furry form.

Crookshanks had missed Hermione. He liked it here, of course, with Zelda, Shakespeare, and Jeannette, but Hermione would always be his owner. He meowed again.
