Sunday work day..

My whole intention Sunday was to get our new garbage disposal installed quickly and then get Goober to the park for the day..  Unfortunately, I should have realized that I was working with water, and EVERYTHING water related around here was done incorrectly by the owner..  So, I got under the kitchen sink yesterday and took out the old garbage disposal.. This was the easy job.  Came right out with no sweat..  I then went to install the new disposal and realized that the previous mount was not going to be compatible with the new garbage disposal.  So be it, it was fairly easy to get off and get the new one on as well (and Bear had to applaude my craftiness in thinking about the old 16 lb. bowling ball sitting in the garage to use as a weight to get the collar sunk into the plumber's putty).  So, I came to the part of mounting the garbage disposal and needed Bear's help to hold it up.  He did and we got it on.  Next came the already existing pipes, securing them to the garbage disposal.  This is where we get into the good stuff..  THe pipes had been rigged together improperly and glued together in certain areas they should not have been glued..including from the main pipe.. Grrr..  We're going to have this shoddy repair he did re-done if/when we get the kitchen remodeled.  And the plastic pipe that he glued to the main pipe he somehow bent at an odd angle (heated it to get it to bend?  I don't know)..  Our neighbor confirmed that the previous owner was extreamly cheap and would do patch jobs just to keep the house together instead of doing the jobs properly.  So, it doesn't surprised us that the pipe wasn't a normal curved pipe.. We decided that we had to replace all the pipes after this odd shaped bend to ensure a proper fit in at least those pipes (the one he glued to the main is another story).  I was lucky enough that we bought a new garbage disposal with a "silence shield".  Meaning that there was a small rubber coupling from the disposal into the main pipes under the sink.  Without the flexibility in this piece, I don't believe we would have gotten our pipes hooked up. So, after 4 trips to Lowes and several extra hours (mostly making the trips), we were finally done.  Unfortunately, we got done too late to get Goober out to the park.  So, I'm thinking we might run her out to the beach next week..  I'm just happy that we have a working garbage disposal now.  Yeah!
