UGH. I'm currently typing up week 96 and this at the same time, and adjusting the date on this bad boy to reflect the 18th. Sorry for the delay and be sure to view week 96 (11/25) as well!
HOLY DRUSTRUCTION OF LIVES, BATMAN. Wear your effin wrist strap! - Woman hits dog with Wiimote, killing it, neighbor revives. It's one long ass article title but HOLY FUCK. How hard does one have to fling their Wiimote where it kills something larger than a guppy?! Jesus.
You don't have to be crazy to put on a shiny costume and battle evil - but it doesn't hurt. Here's a list of the 10 greatest mentally ill superheroes. It's probably pretty easy to guess who the number one is, though I appreciate lot of the mentions on the list.
Ahahahah, worst... or best toilet sign ever?
Many kudos to hmsbackstroker for showing me this link. So appropriate with the release of New Moon not so long ago, it's Edward Cullen - Like A Boss. Just about sums up Twilight perfectly as far as I can tell.
This link has been in my linkies folder for so long, that I couldn't remember exactly what it was about at first. In fact, the only clue I got was the message I left for myself when I first got the link: I changed the link description to, "WTF: itching to your brain," which made me deliriously leery all over again. Annals of Medicine: The itch is a scientific look at, well... itching. Oh yeah, and about how after one woman's life fell to pieces, she developed what felt like an itch on her brain. OH SWEET MOTHER OF COTTON CANDY. "One morning, after she was awakened by her bedside alarm, she sat up and, she recalled, 'this fluid came down my face, this greenish liquid.'” She pressed a square of gauze to her head and went to see her doctor again. M. showed the doctor the fluid on the dressing. The doctor looked closely at the wound. She shined a light on it and in M.’s eyes. Then she walked out of the room and called an ambulance. Only in the Emergency Department at Massachusetts General Hospital, after the doctors started swarming, and one told her she needed surgery now, did M. learn what had happened. She had scratched through her skull during the night-and all the way into her brain." NONONONONONONO. щ(゚Д゚щ)
YOU LOVE PHOTOS, YES? Good, here are 17 more photos you won't believe aren't photoshopped. ...I can't recall if I posted the original batch or not. I personally love their #4 and #11... the giant spider web I KNOW I've posted in the past, but it's still super awesome.
Here's an interesting news story from the BBC earlier this year, about Japan's cyber homeless: while it's a claustophobic's nightmare, it's apparently cheaper to rent out a booth semi-permanently in a cyber cafe than get an apartment. It's a strange/telling sign of the times.
OH SHI-. Why did I think of this Halloween costume?! This is like the best costume ever.
Why is it that I still have lingering Halloween stories? Seriously, I try to store these up for the next year, but sometimes they just cannot wait. Wanna add a little steampunk to your haunted house? Check out this MSNBC report of the Third Raid Project, which got some beautiful results. ...Also, can we finally say steampunk has jumped the shark, now that MSNBC is reporting on it?
DON'T LET THIS HAPPEN TO YOU: here are 12 funny wedding names, half of which are just silly and the other half are "turr hurr herp derp" kind of funny.
I have DEFINITELY posted the National Geographic story about the leopard seal that fell in love with the photographer... but that story didn't have this epic video to go with it. Straight from the mouth of the photographer, he tells us his tale of wooing.
OH MY GOD DUDE, IT'S NOT WORTH IT. After a spectacular (and successful) attempt of saving his wife and daughter from a burning building, one guy had to fuck up a perfectly awesome story by rushing back inside to rescue his cell phone. And dying trying. NUUU, what are you doing to my warm and fuzzy feelings, dammit?!
Brain-enhancing drugs: take 'em, scientists say. Nearly posted one year ago, this article makes an interesting point: if they can boost your brain, with no known side effects, why not?
And to cut this week's linkies a bit short, seeing as it's already late going up: BEE GANG!! D= "I swear to god this neighborhood keeps getting rougher... Today (August 2nd) at 12:00 noon I spotted this itinerant horde of bees slowly making its way down 14th street between Mission and Valencia. The roving mass was apparently following a fugitive queen as she made her way down the block, clustering on top of cars and buildings with no concern for private property. Police assured a concerned public that there was, in fact, an emergency beekeeper on his way, and that there was no cause for alarm."
