Wooo. Okay, two quick things before I start. First, I feel bad for last week. I don't know why. Looking back now, it doesn't seem as bad but in my memory, I thought I put in a lot of fluff. Like I said: it's actually not as bad as I thought. However, it meant that, when I was relying on my memory, I pulled out a TON of links to put up today, so you're getting extra jam packed today (which, in a sense, works for many of you who just finished/will soon be finishing school soon). Secondly, I have a tentative schedule for the next couple of weeks, which goes a little something like:
Round 48 (12/24): A day where I make good use of my "OMGDOWANT" tag, or whatever it is. Basically things I will never never have and are shiny and generally shouldn't scare any of you. Also will be throwing in a couple vaguely holiday themed links. (Currently planned: 21 links)
Round 49 (12/31): ...Nothing really in particular. I was going to throw in a mini section of horrible movies I'm so plan on seeing in the new year because no one has ever heard of them. Because they're that awesome. Might throw in any and all links that will become irrelevant in the near future (and probably should have posted before now) if I get around to it and/or do a retrospective.
Round 50 (1/7): GRAND MASTER LINKIES LIST REVEALED. This week will probably have no linkies, but I will finally un-privatize the complete linkies list I've been working on since something like week 33. I have no idea how many archived links are on that page yet, but I DO know that if you start at the top of the list and hit the "page down" button about 13 times, you finally reach the bottom. It's pretty beastly.
LET'S FINALLY BEGIN, EH?:
Here's definitely one of those links that will go to waste if I didn't put it up soonish. Now, I have no idea how many of you are Twilight fans, if any of you are, but you may or may not want to turn away. Here's a glorious review of Twilight (the novel!) that I found this past week, that had me busting out with laughter, especially close to the end. And, in case you're leery of reading the review due to your hate of Twilight, perhaps the title of the review will convince you: "If I could review Twilight (the book) in three letters, they would be 'WTF'." (They also did a review of the movie which is less funny but actually vaguely intrigues me, as, in the few other Twilight reviews I've read, it seems the movie was made basically for the fans of the novel. Since avphibes wasn't a fan of the book per say but actually read it, I've got to at least tip my hat to what she had to say.)
The description of the video is short, sweet, simple, and totally to the point: Elephant has way with a dumbass. It's somewhat horrifying at first, but now all I can do is laugh at the guy despite the fact that it was probably the worst day of his life.
So Saturn apparently turned into a raver sometime during this past week and gave scientists a crazy techno light show for apparently no reason. Fun times!
ASJGFBSAJKFFKLASNLJ. Why wasn't I informed this was going on?? "Thrill the World" took place on October 25th and, apparently, is a simultaneous world-wide attempt to get as many people together at once to dance the analogously named song/dance Thriller. To give you an idea of scale, from the description: "... This year 10 nations, 72 cities and 4,179 people did the dance on Oct 25th. This video documents the vastness of that endeavor!" While Michael Jackson squicks me the hell out, I cannot deny the epicness of Thriller.
This will really only make sense to those of you who have seen American Psycho. I have, multiple times in the past, proclaimed my adoration for movie trailer remixes and this is no exception. With a bit of clever editing and a change of background music and American Psycho can instantly turn into a romantic comedy. Actually, do me a favor: if you HAVEN'T seen American Psycho yet, watch this video and then watch American Psycho at the next possible chance you get, just so I know someone's mind was blown to itty bitty bits.
I like to call this one "wrong place, wrong time, epic lulz."
Sweet mother of god. I thought I put this up ages ago. Green porno. Words fail me here. It's uh... mostly SFW? Kinda mostly? I totally recommend watching all of the shorts that make up the entirety of Green Porno. There are times where I really did bust out laughing, which I entirely credit Isabella Rossellini with. Really one of my favorite finds of the past year.
APPARENTLY IT IS A DAY FOR SCIENCE! Here are 10 of the world's smallest animals. I wouldn't have put it up but the snake that fits on a quarter is so darn cute.
I realized just now that my link glitched out, so hopefully it's all fixed now. Betty Page, the original queen of pin-up died last week, of which I am vaguely sad. Her life was certainly a full one and I certainly recommend the biographical movie about her.
First of all, this is an old Andy Rooney commentary from 60 Minutes about computers. Second of all Andy Rooney is a destroyer of technology. I mean, fer serious. I do love one of the comments that I just saw while putting this up: "I bet this guy complained about pens when they came out... back when he was 75."
I think I have all sorts of computer-type links today, because I think this will be the last linkies I'll be writing on my current computer before my new laptop arrives. In any case, keeping with the theme, this PSA would have been a lot more profound if the instant messaging program the person was using was not, in fact, Notepad. Not that Andy Rooney would know the difference OOH EPIC BURN.
Paid =/= laid.
"This self-described drag queen, former nudist, born again Christian, and 46-year-old artist from Michigan creates some of the most incredible and bizarre masks ever seen. Meet James Kuhn's face paintings." Some of them creep me out but others totally screw with my sense of perspective and trip me out.
DOES ANYONE ELSE SEE WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS AD??
"Old" viral video, and probably most of you have seen it already, but if you haven't: Chinese Lightsaber Duel! With gymnasts!!
Ending with a quick comic clip. Now, I'm not the biggest comic book reader out there (at least with domestic titles), but there are a few that I do love. In particular, Y the Last Man (a post-apocalypse type title, where Yorick and his pet monkey are literally the last two males surviving on the planet after a plague wipes out the rest of the male population) is amazingly well written and drawn, and is full of fun pop culture references as Yorick is a bit of a nerd. In any case, my love for "Y" doesn't end there but this clip probably not only sums up a huge chuck of the series but there are probably no other two panels that better sum up Yorick's personality in one fell swoop.
