13. What type of AUs are your favorites? Give a general description.
14. What makes you give up on reading a fic?
Bad grammar and bad formatting. I used to give badly written fics a try if the plot sounded good because every author has to start somewhere, but that was back about 15 years ago before fan fic went mainstream. Now, there's so much fic available that it's impossible to keep up with it all and something has to go. I am no longer inclined to mentally edit a fic into something readable.
Same for bad formatting. I have the Readability add-on, which corrects a multitude of sins but not everything. If the fic has a teeny font, is written entirely in italics, is a wall of text with no paragraph breaks, has blinky-flashy things in the sidebar next to the text I'm trying to read, or has a layout in a headache-inducing color scheme (like the fic I just found that was fuchsia text on a royal blue background), I will pass on it.
15. What makes you pick up a fic, what makes it sound interesting?
16. Name a fic that made you cry (or that made you come close).
17. Name a fic that made you laugh a lot.
18. Do you have a fic recommendation page or master list?
Yes, I do.
It's on Pinboard. 19. How many fics do you think you’ve read before?
20. What’s the weirdest fic you’ve ever read? Describe it.
This is a tough one because the Stargate Atlantis fandom had the most amazing collection of cracky McShep fics. There was a whole subgenre where John & Rodney were penguins. There was one where they were both hothouse flowers and had sex when a bee cross-pollinated them. There was another one where they were both Girl Scout cookies. Really, the crack was endless in McShep fandom.
21. Do you read crack!fic?
22. Name a few of your favorite crack!fics.
23. Has fluff ever made you cry? What about angst?
24. What’s the longest fic you’ve ever read?
I'm not really sure. Between A4 zines, digest-sized zines, and online fics that measure their length either by word count or file size, I don't know how to compare page lengths. I have definitely read some long, novel-length stories that ran to hundreds of pages, but I don't know which one was the longest.
The longest one I know of is the Pros fic
Waiting to Fall by Rob, but I have yet to psych myself up to tackle all 800+ pages of it.
25. What’s your opinion on reading dubious consent or no consent?
26. Name a type of fic you’ll never ever read.
Any fic where one half of my OTP rapes or abuses the other half. I don't care what the circumstances are. Do not want.
27. Name a type of fic that you wish there was more of.
A-Team fics that treat Murdock's mental illness seriously. The symptoms he pretends to have and the symptoms he actually has are two very different things, and too many authors are distracted by the silliness of his behavior to recognize the very real problems he's putting on a front to cover up.
28. Who are your favorite fanfiction author(s)?
This is another one that's tough for me to answer. There are some authors that I read voraciously in one fandom, but who I can't read at all in another fandom because their take on the characters is too different from mine. There are very few authors I have read across multiple fandoms, but they include
viridian5,
kellifer_fic,
copperbadge,
rageprufrock,
cattraine, and
lamardeuse.
29. When you find an author you like, do you follow them?
30. How often do you read fanfiction?
31. Do people know that you read fanfiction?
32. Do you leave reviews after reading fics? If so, what do they sound like?
33. When you read a good fic, do you go to the author’s page?
34. Name a common type of fic that you cannot stand.
35. Name all the Work in Progress fics that you are currently reading.
36. Has a fic ever left you unable to fall asleep or think about anything else?
Yes, not very often though.
37. Are you good about keeping up when reading Works in Progress?
38. Name some of your favorite fic recommendations pages.
I don't really have any. My experience with fic rec pages has been that either the compiler has vastly different taste in fic than I do, or the list is thematic and the fics are chosen based on how well they fit the theme rather than how well they're written. These days, I just go to the fandom page on AO3, choose my favorite character, limit to completed fics in English, and sort by kudos when I'm entering a new fandom or looking for something new to read. Even then, I tend not to like the most popular fics and have to drill down a bit to find stories I like.
39. Name a fanfiction author that you’re scared to talk to because they’re so amazing.
40. Have you ever written fanfiction or considered it?
41. Name a fic that has a perfect ending.
42. Name a fic that you wish was longer.
43. Do you read OT3 fics commonly? Have you ever?
I don't commonly read them, but I occasionally will if an author I otherwise like writes one. There aren't that many characters I like that I can see as part of a threesome, though.
44. Do you mainly read TV show-, movie-, or book-based fics?
45. Do you read fanfiction about Anime?
46. If you could imagine the perfect fic, what would it be like?
47. If you had to introduce someone to fanfiction with a few fics, which would you suggest?
48. Have you ever read a fic containing character death?
49. Do you have an AO3/Fanfiction.net/Tumblr page? Link it.
50. What sites do you typically use to read on?
