H50 Ep: Makani 'Olu A Holo Malie

I have this terrible feeling of déjà vu, but I'm not sure why.

I mean it's not like we've ever seen an episode where Steve goes to North Korea Afghanistan with Jenna Kaye Catherine to rescue her fiancé some kid she met 7 years ago and gets captured and tortured by Wo Fat the Taliban, and then Danny and Joe White have to orchestrate a rescue, but they're only able to rescue Steve, not Jenna Catherine. I don't know what I'm thinking of. Must be another show.

I really hope that was Alex's stunt double getting dragged around with his hands bound behind him, because all I could think of during those scenes was poor Alex's owwie shoulder.

And Steve still seems so surprised that Danny would travel halfway around the world to a politically unstable area to save his sorry ass. Stop underestimating Danny, Steve!

This is also the first episode that I can think of where Steve wasn't an emotionless Super SEAL. He was really pretty traumatized by the whole thing. Which made me think of Steve's PTSD storyline we heard rumors about months ago. Was this supposed to trigger it? I thought they were setting it up to be Freddie's death. Or maybe Steve's PTSD is one of those things that happens off screen.

The way they wrote Catherine out was kind of interesting. Usually it's Steve haring off to parts unknown because he just has to do something on his own. On the one hand, I'm pleased that Steve got a good faceful of how his friends--like, say, Danny--feel when he pulls this kind of crap. On the other hand, after everything Steve had just been through it seemed like kicking him excessively when he was down. (And I fully realize Catherine had no idea what Steve had just been through. It's not her I'm blaming; it's the writers.)

I also liked the military and CIA calling Steve on his unauthorized operations and telling him flat out that he can't trade on his reputation anymore and needs to butt the hell out. I hope that signals a shift away from these kinds of plots and more towards, I don't know, police work maybe.
