I'm pleasantly surprised.
Yes, it was very different from the 1983 mini-series, but I think that worked in its favor. It was so different that I wasn't constantly comparing the two in my head like I was with other remakes.
It was kind of heavy-handed with its presentation of devotion to false idols as a theme, but that's pretty much what TV pilots are for--to bludgeon the audience with the show's overall premise to make sure they get it.
I really liked Alan Tudyk as the surprise Visitor and Morena Baccarin as Anna. Scott Wolf kind of bothered me, but it's not his fault that he looks so creepily like Michael J. Fox these days.
I've heard that the pilot was good, but that the episodes following showed a marked decline in quality. I hope not, because this could be a fun series, but it wouldn't be the first time a good pilot turned into a bad TV series.
