So I've gotten back to working again and so far (other than one little mishap) has been gonig great. 'Tis good to see that I haven't forgotten everything about cashiering and cart-pushing while studying Paul's rabbinic arguments, the book of Acts, Greek...ugh...4 semesters to go, & Hellenisitc philosophy. During my breaks, I've been reading from Philip Yancey's The Jesus I Never Knew and while I had to read a couple chapters out of it for class, it is much deeper than I originally realized. Yancey goes through his life growing up in the church and even attending a Christian college without really knowing who Jesus is and how he interacted with the culture of his day. It is easy to see Jesus as some guy who walked around telling everyone to be nice to each other and such...but that doesn't explain what got Jesus on the cross. Jesus was a bit wild, he is seen in the Gospels as a passionate person, not the 'Spock'-like character seen in many presentations of Him, not a calm, peaceful person...not at all.
