Summary: A bit of fun in the morning
Sunlight slowly crept through the curtains, gradually brightening the room. Ruud yawned and rolled over to switch off the alarm clock, careful not to disturb the sleeping figure beside him. He knew they had plenty of time before they had to leave and they were both early risers any way. So to speak.
He propped himself up on one elbow in order to see Edwin’s face from a better angle. Some of the lines from last night had eased away, but his jaw still seemed clenched. Ruud realised exactly what he could do to help him relax and wake him up slowly at the same time. He was incredibly pleased with himself for having such a good idea so early and was certain Edwin would be too.
His hand found what it was looking for, and with the lightest of touches he began to move, slowly and rhythmically, gradually increasing the pressure as he heard some sighs of what he assumed to be pleasure escaping through Ed’s lips. Soon he noticed a smile spreading across the keeper’s face, and he rolled onto his back as he opened his eyes.
“Goedemorgen Ruud,” he said, grinning.
“Goedemorgen yourself” Ruud replied, switching from Dutch to English without a thought. “I didn’t mean to wake you just yet.”
“Oh I’ve been awake for awhile, just thought I’d let you carry on with what you were doing.” The wicked gleam in his eyes was a welcome sight, having been absent for longer than Ruud liked.
“Really? Would you like me to carry on now then?” The mischievous note in his voice was impossible to hide and his grip tightened a bit more.
Edwin looked up at him, considering his next move. “In a minute.” He grabbed Ruud’s face and pulled him down, kissing him hard. Their lips parted and Ed held on as if he never wanted to let go. When he did, he looked considerably happier than he had the night before.
“I’ve been wanting to do that since yesterday. Thank you.”
Ruud looked surprised and baffled. “You’re welcome, I guess, but---”
“Why for the goal of course. You know I never get to celebrate them with you as I’d like.” The gleam faded then, replaced by a serious look. “And for everything you did last night.”
Ruud actually found himself blushing and attempted to stammer out a reply. Edwin put a finger to his lips then stroked the dark stubble along his cheek. “Just promise me you will shave before this goes any further,” he said in a mock-serious voice.
Ruud grinned back, running his fingers across Edwin’s jawline, whose own stubble betrayed him. “I will if you will.”
”Fair enough. Shall we then?”
“I think we should.”
“First one there gets all the hot water.”
“You’re on.”
And for a moment, the sorrows of the past few days disappeared as they raced each other to the shower, laughing like two boys without a care in the world.
