Home sweet home. Ish.

I really didn't like living in Arizona. The whole thing was pretty much a fiasco from the start... It was like... forcible destruction of my innocence, moving there, hearing the kids drop swear words into every sentence (for some reason they didn't do that in Cary. As far as I'd heard anyway), not having any friends for a year. The entirety of my time in Arizona was bad, to be completely honest. Not to say that there weren't good moments, but in general, I was never, ever happy. But I can't really blame Arizona. It's my adolescence. I just happened to be there when I was going crazy. The whole place is strewn with bad memories...

... But on the other hand, Arizona is a pretty cool place. I never really bonded with it... It doesn't really feel like home. But describing this place where I've lived for eight years to the people from Ohio and Michigan, I feel somewhat exotic. It's like... cool. Arizona is one of two places in the world that has those giant walls of dust called haboobs. Only place with saguaro cacti. Mountains, scorpions, rattle snakes... heat that is only comparable to sticking your head in an oven. Palm trees. I loved the idea of seeing palm trees every day when we first moved out there. Now I'm more amazed at the giant oak and maple trees here in the midwest. I like the big trees, better... there's this willow tree out on the beach... it's gorgeous. But relatively few people in this country walk outside and see palm trees, and even fewer see a saguaro cactus. Arizona isn't really my home, apart from my family being there... but it's really cool to describe how different things are to the midwesterners.
