dont join nhs. they're a bunch of elitists who go against everything the national honors society stands for--first and foremost inclusivity. this isn't even the typical high school club that people join just to put on their resume--they're that AND exclusive. if one wanted to make a society that helped out the community instead of themselves, they certainly would not ignore those especially willing to help. yes you can join national honors society so that it'll look good on your transcript. or you can boycott an organization that ignores the willing, and do something about the world yourself. nhs is supposed to be a gathering of students with similar interests. indstead, ahs nhs has opportunities known only to their own members. if you really want to volunteer and make the world a better place, do it with people that don't care about your gpa and connections. i am in no way bashing nhs. there are hundreds of high schools that make nhs effective for the entire school. but ahs has somehow taken a great opportunity and turned it into a selective opportunity. it is extremelly unfortunate things had to happen this way. think of me not as scornful but exposed to some harsh reality. you are a smart kid. you don't need a title for it. it'll be the things you do, not the honors you get. if the goals of the actual nhs are what matter to you--respect, cooperation, and community--then take it upon yourself to do the right thing. others will follow and hopefully the ahs nhs will finally realize they have made a huge mistake. do not join nhs until they promise to fufill their duty of giving ANY willing student the opportunity to make the world a better place.
