Rantings from the bonfire

May 21, 2009 18:32

Ok so I'm a bit late in posting this, but could be worse, I could have forgotten altogether, now wouldn't that have been really.. oh never mind..

PICS! BEHOLD!

Pics of Victorian Museum Crawl courtesy of keypendragon

Pics courtesy of.. me!

A big big thanks to everyone who came out and looked jaw-dropping fantastic that day, all of you, wow oh wow: keypendragon and John, Crystal, ladistrange and dark_space, djpanic and mrspanic, Cornelius and Erica, and Kara.. oh and Larry and his two friends from Philadelphia who stopped by!!

I was completely floored. Look at the pics and agree with me.

FRIDAY:

We'll just politely skip Friday. It was fired.

Ok I will say this: DAMMIT!!! Why didn't I go to the Tea at Ascension???? :( I didn't go, which is Epic Fail.

SATURDAY:

I was very nervous about the weather but confident that Sunday would be better (after praying, praying and.. going to pray some more..).

Having no Internet access at the time sucked donkey kong. I was compelled to go to Kinko's to satisfy my need to reconnect with the human race in the only way we do in the 21st century (and w/o that evil thing called Twitter..).. and to pick up the Victorian Museum Crawl keepsakes I had specially printed just for this momentous occasion..

Why do people feel it's ok to wear a baseball cap to their anniversary event in a formal garden?

Spent some time online talking to various Danish folk and then I left for spellbound_dc, after some Asian goodness in my belly, for promo and general really cool time.. ran into Erica and Cornelius, Diane, Bryce, Nate, Tom, shadow27 and pmhrh, johnnyslaughter, violinpadraic, Kirk (thanks for the interesting discussion BTW!), rainingdays and justaputz, Skot (you silly silly man), Christian, Evie, exquisitetrash, Angel, Mike ("we like dress-up!"), and good danceable music..

I left early to get ready for Sunday.. sort of early.. 2AM, instead of 2:45AM..

SUNDAY:

The big day. Started far too early when the Comcast cable technician arrived at 8:30AM, woke me up and fixed my connectivity with a new cablemodem :)

The big day. It's cloudy, cool and a bit windy. Victorian weather. I got Victorianized and went out via cab to the Smithsonian Castle.. we all trickled in and walked about the castle grounds discussing cats (and I don't have a cat), while folks came up to us and snapped pictures as if we were celebrities..

Ok, we apparently were celebrities, because the local tourists became paparazzi instantly..

We went to the National Gallery of Art (with an entourage of photographers, I kid you not), met up with "the rest of your crew" (Thank you Mr. Security Guard) and saw some of the most beautiful Illuminated Manuscripts I have ever seen! I saw works from the 12th to the 15th century, all the while John helping to translate the lovely but illegible calligraphy.. From there we regathered and then went to the Natural History Museum for the Victorian/Steampunk tradition of viewing dead and shiny things. MMM dead and shiny things!!

We went to see the Butterfly exhibit, but paying $6 to see butterflies, when you can see them for free at the Zoo, wasn't appealing to most of us, so we went over to the other works of color and wonder: GEMS! So after walking about trying not to distract people from viewing the gems considering that we were the human equivalent at this point, we regathered, went up to Elephant and Castle for a fine fine dinner (because if you're Victorian, of course you go to a "pub", even if it's completely fake).. I had a fine British roast beef dinner with Yorkshire pudding, of course, and a fine Stella..

I finally make it home, exhausted, happy, blessed and realizing that while Friday was awful, Sunday was phenomenal enough to overwrite Friday, and I'm sorry for those unable to be at the Victorian Museum Crawl this year.. I am planning more wonderful events such as these in the future, so stay tuned..
