Rantings from the bonfire

Tonight I received the only profound fortune ever from a little modernized faux-Chinese fortune cookie (to those of you not in the know I will spoil it for you: Fortune cookies were never, ever Chinese in origin):

Life is a tragedy to those who feel;
Life is a comedy to those who think

This weekend I was allowed to enjoy the refreshing aspects of divine comedy because, for the first time in ages, I was allowed to think. I heard and participated in conversations that were the nicest, deepest and most meaningful in a very, very long time. Free from the ridiculous drama that has infected this scene for far too long, the way this scene was meant to be, the fact that this scene once danced in cemeteries, read bad poetry (thanx for the confirmation swandust), had gothic tea and dressed because they wanted to, and discussions ranging from ancient plumbing to literature to the dead were the norm, not the exception..

We need to laugh once again, in a dark and meaningful way..

So to those who expanded my mind I thank you sincerely, especially to those who invited me to the Gothic Tea this weekend, my gosh, what a fabulous and wonderful event that was!! Please do another!! I have so much to talk about..

SATURDAY:

I went to the Gothic Tea in the midst of a very crowded and joyously busy day. Getting up at 11AM, however, wasn't so joyous. Getting up before noon on a Saturday should be a crime. I had to get up, get the rental car, drive quickly over to Pentagon Row to buy something for the Black Elephant gift exchange.. and so off I go to hang out with some of the most wonderful and awesome (and most fabulously-dressed) gothic people on earth. I so so so so so miss deathling and Brian.. oh and my once-fascinating conversations with parad0cz.. all of the gifts were Victorian/Goth in nature (no gag gifts.. for once!) and did I mention how fabulous everyone dressed?

I didn't have time to go to the Lucia celebration at the House of Sweden afterwards and considering it was snowing and that I was absolutely pooped from getting up so early, I felt I would rather go to the ASA Lucia celebration next weekend instead and go back home to unwind, power nap and get corporately gothed up for spellbound_dc's Corporate Goth night..

And so 3 hours later I get up and get corporate gothed up and head out to both dcmidnight and spellbound_dc for some awesome times! It was very much fun to hang with carolynn_dc, Marti, djpanic and mrspanic, Jose, Phoebe, Jasper, dj_vlad, Bryan, Kitty, April Dawn, severian99, coffinwolf, Rob ("Vamp"), Misha.. and more..

And then down the street to spellbound_dc for Corporate Goth night as I got all corporate gothed up, of course.. saw Higgins for the first time in several years, what an awesome treat!!! Also saw vicar, tuath13, exquisitetrash, getawaydriver, deadmoonrising, and OfficeSpace..

What a very much awesome day from start to finish, again, because having conversation that is mutually beneficial enriches us all, individually and corporately.. talking about the dead and 19th century literature destroys drama any day!

SUNDAY:

Ahhh to get up at 4PM.. you read that right, 4PM!!! Ahhhh.. I got up, piddled about and then had some awesome conversations with my friend Adam from Canada and David from Denmark (not my Danish brother David mind you), and of course the back-and-forth joyous banter between myself and Jo in the UK.. Europeans are perhaps the most supreme of the entire human race..

I did manage to finally get dressed to take the rental car up to DC to go gorge myself on Mongolian BBQ (the YUM) and drive around the pentagram-shaping circles in DC.. and to discover that I'm a spoiler, too intense for "simple" people, and that I'm a bad fit except among elegant freaks..

The things you learn when you talk about Roman plumbing.. ;)
