Pics from Burma Awareness Dinner, Black Thanksgiving Dinner and more.. FREE BURMA "I'm beautiful, dammit!"
The music's a bit annoying, but the message is timeless. We live in a society where people like me are considered "ugly", "repulsive", and "scary", and people in the past have told me this, even in church. My sincere thanks to Matt, Mark-Andrew, Katie,
deathling,
exquisitetrash and
dmcindc for proving otherwise, because what I learned today (oh thanx to Marc for this revelation) is this weekend's Lesson: People can't stand to be reminded of their own uniqueness, and I am that reminder. That explains the incident at Rumours a while back, the church incidents, and on and on.. people see freaks like me and they are reminded that their vain attempts at "sameness" will ultimately fail, and here I walk into their life BEING different and ADMITTING I'm different, and ultimately reminding them that they are too.
And that the Burmese junta is a horrible, utterly EVIL regime (and please, people: call it Burma, not Myanmar!)
So let us begin the madness!
THURSDAY: Did not again go to Arcadia, or whatever it is, because, well, you all know why.. why go into this weirdness?
FRIDAY:
I got a call from
666daemon666 telling me that he is looking into moving out of the country to my part of the world! Ni alla folket måste realisa att han skall lära svenska på
dcmidnight.. What a cool phone call, and a nice way to break the really, really, really, REALLY early morning work madness with applications going through and others utterly breaking because apparently my knowledge of JSP isn't up to snuff..
I rush out of work to get all ready at home and go to Burma Restaurant for the
those_who_mourn Burma Awareness Dinner..
I am going to say this because I can: I was very disappointed in the turnout from the Scene for this. This is more important than all the alcohol and fetishism in the world, people. Not to join us for yummy food, but to be in solidarity with oppressed people that could just as easily be you. Let's step up next time and be more vocal in our opposition to evil regimes and show the world that gothic people care.. but thanx to
cerberus777,
urgote and Sarah,
lilian_winter,
normal_dan,
dharmata101 and
valdyr (Happy Birthday!), Lauren, Manda, a friend of theirs and a friend of
cerberus777 for showing up, oh and for Misha, Eddy, and
oldsmobile_mike for wanting to come out but being unable to do so (you were there in spirit.. and we ate your food in spirit).. Let me say this as well: Burmese food is A-MA-ZIIIING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I had Pokang Soup and Burmese Mango Pork; the pork was one of the best dishes I've ever had in my life (right up there with the Malaysian dish roti canai); the Pokang Soup, however, was so hot that
cerberus777 had to finish it for me (and I'm a Southerner, we eat hot food for a living).. but the presentations were interesting (though a bit too leaned toward things in Thailand, to be honest), and I had to rush out as fast as I can..
..to head to
Jaxx to see Amon Amarth in concert, which I caught literally halfway through their set, but still in time to hear "Pursuit of Vikings", "Fate of Norns" and even "Runes To My Memory", all 3 of my favorite Amon Amarth songs, yayness! And yes, of course, I found the time to chat with the band, when not chatting with Austin or the guy from Apothys (the world's biggest
kit257 fan)..
..and then off to Kinko's for more emailing blah blah blah..
SATURDAY:
Ahhh.. to arise at 5PM! When the evil orb has left us and we are left with the blessed DARKNESS (no not Mr. Darkness, he's not one of my roommates!), and I was able to arise, get all gothied up and head out to check my mail once again.. hurry up Hard Drive! Matt was unable to meet with me for dinner as he had "something come up", so I stayed longer and drove straight to
dcmidnight and had an awesome time! Run into
666daemon666, Eddy (!),
cheetahdave,
dj_phae and
binarycognition,
rivingmass and his "harem" (hehe),
dmcindc,
verlise,
gelfjenn,
thecreature,
kit257, and the very welcomed return of
djsolaries and
pragma_x ('bout time, hehe), and a big welcome to Helter as the new guitarist of Dharmata101,
dharmata101 and
valdyr, Marti, Eric, Renon (is that right?), and too many people under the age of 5.. yay for classic Battlestar Galactica!
Then of course it's time to hang with the OLD PEOPLE.. you know, those over the age of 125.. hehe ;) at
spellbound_dc! Had a fantastic time with awesome music courtesy of
dj_transept, while I had time to hang with her Matt (who is a blast!!), Warren,
exquisitetrash (girl, you RAWK! Thanx for cheering me up against private trolls!),
loss_of_signal,
shadow27 and
pmhrh,
tttoltdt(?), Sean, Sean (333), Misha, Leyla, Todd and Joa (one of the coolest couples in DC), Joseph Blackfeather, Angela (yay another death metal loving Goth in DC!), and lots of awesome dancing! and yay for classic Buckaroo Banzai!
SUNDAY:
Matt again canceled out on dinner (crap) because we couldn't coordinate our schedules, so the whole day was.. well.. an affirmation that apparently I'm not ugly, but I'm beautiful, dammit (even if none of you responded to my LJ post with links to my pics)
And that be that for the weekend. I have a healthy perspective on who I am, who we as freaks are, and Burmese food rocks da planet, not to mention Swedish death metallers, awesome freak friends, awesome long-distance non-freak friends, and again, huge congrats to my beloved sister Annie and her Ravn! Oh and congrats to my other beloved sister Mandy and her catering job! It is catering, right? Do you do Burmese?
