I don't understand Australia better than Australians, its just that as an outsider I have a different perspecitive on it. To you, its home, and therefore familiar, to me, it's an old, and diffrent land. Geologically Australia is the oldest continent, it has vegetation that has survived as a species for millenia, it's people have existed within a continuous culture since before humans even got to Scotland. Its not that I KNOW it better, its just because its not home, and familiar to me, I am struck more by how bloody OLD it is. I don't mean to sound like a know-it-all, I guess that my archeology class is just giving me an appreciation for old places and cultures, and Australia is the oldest of 'em all.

Speaking more as an appreciator of aesthetics than a twenty-year-old male, I'll bet you do.
