My goal for the next few weeks is to try to start reading more.  Now that grad school and my thesis is done, and the Once Upon A Time season finale has marked the end of the shows I keep up with now, I find myself at a loss sometimes for what to do.  And I have a TON  of books I've been wanting to read.  So I'm trying to get back in the habit of ( Read more... )

lol maybe we have to work on not getting to that bored stage and needing Tumblr? :P Tumblr savior is pretty handy... but it only works when people tag their posts. Soooo it has its downfalls. It reduces what you don't want to see a little though. didn't really work on mozilla though, so I got chrome (I've been wanting to for a while anyway). And yes! Totally! You'll find me here: http://theninthbow.tumblr.com/ I'll add you back ;) I need more fun tumblrs. lol

yeah, sometimes it does take a while to get into a book. One of my friends is also reading Game of Thrones (the first one) and it's taking her forever too. I feel like they can be difficult books to get through, whether it's violence or style... and with SO MANY characters in it it's bound to be a bit jumpy, I think. Which is one of the downfalls. And a lot of the sections seemed short? So that doesn't really allow a lot of time for the mind to settle into and absorb the info/scene. so that could be a problem too. That sounds like a good reading plan! And lol, I'm the same way with the spine of books. I rarely lend any out for just that reason. I'm horrible. Hmmm... that could be an issue with having an electronic devise with books. I know I have to shut my computer off and put it away when i want to read, otherwise I get distracted too lol.

I think sooo...I just don't want to do my essay and Tumblr is right there and I am weak. It's awful. I have added you! I am inseybugular there, and I apologise in advance for all of the Avengers and Teen Wolf at the moment ;)

Yes! I find it difficult to get into the story when the sections are so short. I find myself wanting to skip ahead to get to the next part of one person's story instead of sitting through numerous other stories before it comes back, and then I feel disappointed because GRR Martin has glossed over whatever it was I was interested in. All in all, I don't think I'm seeing what everyone else is so sold by, but I think that's because I like tighter storytelling or something, maybe? I'm not really sure why, also, there needs to be so many different POVs, I don't know how they all lend to the plot, but then I'm still on Book Two, maybe it gets better as they go along.

We are all weak when it comes to the internets and tumblr :( And yay! I have added you back! And do not apologize! I LOVE avengers and have been needing more on my dashboard. Idk what Teen Wolf is, but I'm sure I'll enjoy it as well. In return, I apologize for an obscene amount of Tom Hardy ;)

Ahh yes...that is the problem with writing in that form of short sections from multiple characters. I'm interested to read the series (saga?) just to see what his writing style is... and if his writing's any good, or if he just writes an exciting tale. I'm watching the first season of the series, and am enjoying it, but even then I find myself drawn to one or two storylines more than the others, like you. And that's interesting what you say about so many different POVs and how you can't see how the lend to the plot... from the tv series at least it just seems that everything is so separate now, but eventually everything's gonna come together somehow. I mean, everyone's fighting for the same crown, I believe? So everything seems to discombobulated, but maybe it'll come together eventually... even if it takes some time lol. The plot and action just seems so sprawling, maybe it's just another byproduct of such a style/form. I wonder if the flaws that come from the form are worth it, if the form actually pays off in the end...

Teen Wolf is probably not that good. I am just enjoying the hell out of it and can't wait for the second season xD I have too many feels. Derek Hale is like the Dean Winchester of the show. I am enjoying it more than anything else that has been on lately, I'm not sure exactly what that says about my taste lol! There is no such thing as too much Tom Hardy xD

I find his writing lacking a little bit, but maybe I am being to hard on him. Perhaps it is because at the moment everything seems rather scattered and things are only very slowly being pulled together into a larger narrative. Another problem I have was that I was reading book two before season two aired, and book two seems to skip over things but then the things that were skipped over were sort of shown on the show (or something that didn't happen in the books turned up) and I felt even more confused because it's a bit like there's two different stories. The thing is, too, that there are still more books to come and there are now even more POVs (from what I've heard) and I do wonder how (and if) things are eventually going to all tie in together.

I feel quite bad because I genuinely wanted to like the series, both the books and the show and I just can't get into either.
