Salem's little accident...

Yesterday we had some excitement.  Salem's tail got closed in a door, and the tip came off.  You could see bone.  The vet called it "de-gloving," and they said it was kind of common.  So the vet amputated the part of his tail that was damaged and stitched him up.  He's doing well.  He slept a lot yesterday, and didn't seem too bothered by anything going on.  Apparently he didn't even cry out when his tail was caught in the door, and the only reason my mom knew anything had happened was because she found the fur on the floor and noticed he was staring at his tail.  So yeah. Idk. Cat's are good at hiding sickness, etc, so I'm not too surprised.

But yes, Salem's doing well now.  His tail is a few inches shorter, but his fur should grow back so eventually he'll look basically normal.

And he has a nice new accessory to show off:

So yeah.  And under the cut is a pic of his tail when we were waiting to go to the vet. Beware though, it's graphic. You can see some blood and bone, so if you're squeemish don't look.  The writer part of me and the part of me that wanted to be a vet are strangely fascinated by it, despite feeling extremely bad for Salem. Or maybe it's just so bizarre looking I'm just like "huh?!" now that I know he's ok.

So yeah :/  Poor baby.  But he's good now, playing and chasing his ball and scarves around.  He's always been a really sweet, good natured cat, despite being really clumsy and kind of derpy, so it's good to see him still the same.

And here he is all patched up and being sleepy :)

So yes, and exciting day.  Luckily today was less eventful, and here's hoping many more uneventful days will follow.
