another movie day...
Today was pretty much unproductive. I woke up early, thinking I'd have breakfast and get an early start on work.
Psshhhh....
Today I have watched Quills, The Least of These, and a documentary about the porn industry (yes, it is available on Netflix).
Needless to say, each was interesting in its own right.
Quills:
I've been wanting to watch Quills for... years, actually. But I don't think I actually knew it was about the Marquise de Sade until really recently (oops?). But it was good. It was different than I thought it would be. Yes, its subject matter is the Marquise de Sade, but Jouquin Pheonix's character is the real protagonist, as is Kate Winslet's character to another degree, and it was actually really fascinating and kinda philosophical. (Not to mention Jouquin Pheonix is rather hot :P) It had a little bit of a twisted-ness to it that I wasn't expecting (I was expecting some kind of twisted nature, but what I got wasn't it, and this way was more satisfying). And the actors were brilliant. I definitely recommend it, but you have to be able to withstand some unsavory things... like tongues being cut out and Marquise de Sade being read aloud. But it was good.
And I'm including the trailer, because it convinced me to watch the movie when I was on the verge of not watching it (I think the music convinced me :P)
The Least of These:
This was a totally random pick of the day. I felt like watching a drama, and something a little different, and this provided it. It was kind of like a Dead Poet's Society that took place in a religious boarding school for boys. It had me a bit teary-eyed in some places. But again, it deals with some unsavory matter... basically, it's the story of a priest who goes to a school and winds up trying to solve the mystery of another priest's disappearance. Turns out the guy was murdered, because he was an abusive dick. Anyway, yeah. So it was a kind of heavy subject matter, but put together and handled well.
I'm including this trailer, too, because it was the last, like, twenty seconds of it that made me watch the movie.
Naked Ambition: An R-Rated Look at an X-Rated Industry:
I'm just putting this in here for shits and giggles. I don't have a first clue about porn or the porn industry, but this documentary was interesting because it categorized porn as a subculture and so looked at it from that view point. Idk if I agree with everything that was said, but it's always cool to see another viewpoint on a subject. It was kind of funny mindless watch while I sorted through my phone files :P
Mmmm... I think that's it. Things are boring here as usually, and I had to sit through people babbling about eating fish eyes and goat eyes and horses at dinner. Needless to say, I can't wait to get out of here. Only five more nights here! I have tomorrow here, then Thurs. it's off to NY for Pride, and then I'm back on Monday but leave Thurs for home. I can't wait. These next two Thursdays can't come soon enough.
