big bang overhaul...
Taking a quick break from writing. I've been totally overhauling my big bang the past few days. It's turning into a bitch. And so I'm spitting my thoughts out onto LJ to clear my head so I can continue working on it tonight.
The idea behind it is a bit more subdued in some ways than other things I've worked on, and so I've been nervous that the plot/tension wasn't enough to hold readers' attention throughout the >20,000 word count. I've been working on adding some tension and amping up the plot a bit. I think I have a good revised plot now... enough tension to add to the immediacy of the piece but not take away from the premise (if it works out right, it should add to the premise - everything that happens should add to the premise -, so... *crosses fingers*). But I feel like it flows a lot better, makes better sense now as a whole instead of snapshots of action, so that's good.
But yeah... I'm getting worried. Not about finishing it, but whether or not it's actually going to be good or not. It mixes some weird things together (apocalypse + domesticity) and so part of me is really excited and the other part of me kinda feels overwhelmed with trying to balance things and make things plausible. I'm chopping the opening scene by half to jump right into the action, and then moving pieces around and rewriting them to make it flow better. But... I'm still nervous it's going to fall flat and be "blahhh."
Plus, my apartmentmate turned the heat up way too high last night, and so my head's all fuzzy today... so it's been difficult trying to plow through, but at least I managed to get one important scene out.
I'm really hoping editing and rewrites will get this thing whipped into shape.
To sound a little more upbeat about this (bc I am enjoying it, as much as I'm worried about it), I'm happy with the changes that have developed. I just hope it continues forming itself into something that's at least a little passable as decent.
