buh dum ching!

Wait until she learns there was sex back then, too. It'll make her want to poke out her mind's eye.

Wait... there was sex when I was a teenager?

I can't believe I'm just hearing this now.

:) I think it's funny that puberty is so fascinating and easily discussed. It's not a particularly private topic. I hope she's figuring out what she needs to know.

It's probably perfect that she's a few years from the actuality of it. The closer she gets, the less she might want to talk to you about it. Now it's just a strange and exotic animal she's heard about.

Well, it is sort of fascinating, isn't it? Just when you're starting to get the hang of existing in a human body, poof! The thing goes ahead and transforms on you. She's lucky to have you to talk things over with. :)

my grandmother got me this book at a yard sale, but I LOVED it. It explained it all wonderfully.

My 9 year old is asking questions. I think maybe I need to go shopping at Amazon. I don't remember ever having 'the talk' - I just knew about it, so I dunno how to do this so well. :)

The book I linked to is awesome: it's illustrated by Marc Brown, who does the Arthur books, and the text is by his wife, Laurie Krasny Brown: it's truthful but not scary, and talks about everything from bodies changing to where babies come from to masturbation to whether or not boys and girls are more different or alike. I bought it a few years ago and just left it on her shelf and figured she'd find it when she needed to. Over time, she's been interested in different parts of it.

I like that girls and boys learn about both girls and boys these days: it's good to have a sense of what's going on over there, you know?
