Well, gosh. I don't actually have anything to post; I just didn't want an entire year to go by without inserting a little something here to fill the space.
So: I just watched Shaq's little freestyle diss to Kobe Bryant on Yahoo videos. It wasn't brilliant, but it was massively egotistical, and therefore funny. Shaq's career is basically over, and yet, now that the Lakers have lost in the playoffs to the Celtics, he felt totally justified in talking shit, repeating over and over, "Kobe couldn't do without me" and "Kobe how does my **** taste?" even getting the audience in on that last one. (Real brave of him talking mess after the series is over. Shows some class punking somebody already beaten.)
But what's really funny is that, as stupid as all of that sounded coming from an all-but washed-up baller, Shaq was basically right. Kobe sucked in the series with the Celtics. And he can't win a playoff series alone, or at least acting as if he's alone. Shaq is wrong if he's assuming that it's him and no one else who can get Kobe rings. But he's right if he's assuming that the reason why Kobe can't get rings is because he believes his own hype and thinks he's the second coming of Jordan, that he was the true star of the Lakers during the years he and Shaq played together, and that he's above having to be a team player and show leadership (Kobe leads by mad skillz alone).
You'd think with all the money that guys like Shaq and Kobe make, they'd be above all these petty little schoolyard intrigues: "Coach! Coach! Shaq got a bigger press junket than I did. Do you and management love him more?" "Coach! Coach! Kobe won't share the ball. Make him give it back!" "Haha! You suck!" "No, YOU suck!" 0_o
Dude, guys, go relieve some of that tension by taking a nice liesurely swim--pick a pool at any one of the ten houses you own. Meanwhile, regular folks like me will be deciding whether or not it's worth it to blow up the plastic wading pool, or risk infection at the public pool. Let's just keep it real now.
