Diddy Talks!

Feb 17, 2006 15:53

I haven't posted in a while primarily due to the fact that I figured what I had to say, some people might not want to hear. However, I have tired of conducting my internet life in a manner that befits others to the detriment of myself and my friendships.

For the past three days I have had a stomach virus that has relegated me to lying either on the couch or in bed. I missed work and pretty much just hung out with Mattie all day alternating between watching movies and sleeping while continually trying not to vomit ... I must say though, I had about as much fun as one could expect under those conditions.

The first of those three days was Valentine's Day ... so you might expect it put a damper on the festivities. Not so much. In general, I am not a big fan of it. Not due to not having a date or being lonely but because I don't think you should have to wait until some random day in February to tell someone how you feel. Knowing of Mattie's obsession with the Mudbugs, and that they were playing on Valentine's Day, I felt the best course of action in regards to a gift would be tickets. She seemed to think so as well. So while the couples of the world were spent waiting for a table at restaurants ... or whatever else people do on Valentine's Day, we were sitting in the front row watching the Bugs win. Final score 7-5.

Now I have waited my entire life to sit in the front row of a major (or even semi-major) sporting event ... and no, despite my love for them, the Gents' basketball games do not count as semi-major. It made me look forward to the days when me and Jeff are really rich and sit courtside at the Mavs. Still painted up. Still acting crazy. It only took 58 minutes for one of the Youngstown Steelhounds to get checked into the pane of glass mere inches from my face ... at which point I got up and started banging on the glass. Life goal accomplished. Plus I got to see Emilie, Breanna, and A to the 'shley (current owner of Lil' Vick) at the game as well. All in all, I had a fun time. The only real downer was being made to stand up and cheer by the rabid fans of the front row (remember the stomach virus) and the fact that due to the layout of CenturyTel there was about a two and a half feet gap between my seat and Mattie's. To sum it all up, for a day I don't even like ... I did enjoy it immensely.

In other news I am going home this weekend. In about two hours I will be dining with Alison, Josh, Mattie, Jim, and Jim's girlfriend/person Marsha. Weird. Mattie's never met Alison and Josh before. Alison and Josh have never met Marsha. It puts me in the weird situation of actually knowing more about things than everyone else in my family. Usually I'm the last to know. Chalk it up to apathy. However, as if all those introductions weren't enough ... I found out earlier today that my aunt Nelda died last night, so things might get out of control. I knew this was happening, but Dad didn't exactly let me know how imminent her death was. So there goes another member of my family to the bitch we know as cancer. All in all, as terrible as it may sound this has left our family in a somewhat uncomfortable position. This is my Dad's sister, but we have tried to distance our family from their's as much as possible ... essentially because they are "those" relatives. Know what I mean? That does put a bit of a damper on the weekend because I am about as excited at going home as I have been since I moved away. Hopefully, it doesn't rain all day tomorrow because I have a lot of East Texas territory I would like to cover.

One final thing: Today at lunch I found out (by listening to a commercial) that there is nothing worse than paying too much for cable TV. I find the very notion of that statement ludicrous. Obviously, dying would be worse than paying too much for cable TV. Here's the rest of my short list of "Things That Are Worse Than Paying Too Much For Cable TV"
1. Having to watch that commercial on and endless loop for the rest of my life. To be honest I would probably shoot myself in the head after about ten minutes.
2. Listening to that commercial and thinking to one's self "You know what ... that's right"
3. Closing your penis and a truck tail gate
4. Being trapped in an elevator
5. Having to watch "The Hulk" (the movie, not the cartoon or old show ... even the old show might qualify) ever again.

I realize these aren't that imaginative. My apologies. That's why I have friends like John Walsh. So, tell me a few things you think are worse than paying too much for cable TV.

I still want to have a party for the people that would be reading this sometime soon (i.e. Em, Kate, Richard, Liz, Jeremy and all the others. Don't think of it as an lj party ... but rather one like those we had last year. I miss you all. Sorry I disappear.

That's all I have time for folks. I hope that was an adequate update on the life and times of Diddy. If not, better luck next time.

Peace, love, and Jefferson Texas
