So ... TV?

Yes. I know I haven't posted in a while. Let's move on.

Recently, I've been having way too much fun with my DVR and my QuickCam. You know how you see things while watching shows that strike you as particularly hilarious ... not so much from their comedic value but rather from the fact that they are anomalies or that the show the depths to which some would sink for a few moments of fame. Well, whenever I get a chance ... I like to capture these moments. Why? Why not.

First let's start with the cultural divide. Remember the late 80s and early 90s? Nickelodeon was the bomb. Snick? I missed the debut because I was in Shreveport doing something terribly uncool ... that was back when the Macaroni Grill was a cotton field. That's a personal problem I understand, but one that will always haunt me. So yes, we all loved The Adventures of Pete & Pete, Are You Afraid of the Dark, and so on and so forth. However, for myself ... the holy grail was on the game shows. I always wanted to be answering Olmec's questions on The Legends of the Hidden Temple or climbing the Agrocrag on Guts! (If anyone has a glowing piece of the agrocrag for sale ... I am in the market by the way. And don't tell me to check eBay because I already have).

Yet the pinnacle of Nickelodeon game shows was undoubtedly Nick Arcade. It didn't come on much and it didn't last long ... but this was a game that actually allowed you to play a video game from inside it. How awesome is that? Well now I have this channel (Nick Games) which shows all of these old shows ... many of you know this, and I have been watching them frequently in an attempt to return to my youth. While watching with my friend Kim, we one day decided to pause the screen and take a picture of it. There was just too much hilarity in the shot for it not to be captured. This is it:

Things to look at:
1) The host, Phil, has what can only be described as a male camel toe. He has this in every episode of the series ... don't think it's just a result of the show being paused.
2) Additionally, notice the face that Phil is making and what he is doing with his hands. These are also hallmarks of the show.
3) I like how the girl is actually taller than him and the boy could not appear to be any more disinterested
4) If you hate ALL of that ... notice the Paperboy arcade game in the background and just wax nostalgic.

Want another Phil classic?

1) Although the black pants do make it hard to see, Phil is in fact still going with the "male camel toe-wacky hands-terrible face" combo that made this show a hit.
2) Once again a female contestant is nearly taller than he is
3) Only while playing the games, which required two hands, did the boy take his hand out of his pocket. The rest of the time it was firmly ensconced exactly where you see it.

Remember the game show Figure it Out? It's essentially a televised version of 20 questions ... but with wackiness ensuing. Here's a face you make if you win.

Before I mentioned it was fun to capture anomalies using the camera. Here is an example taken from a hockey game.

Now it might take a moment for what's wrong in this picture to sink in. I saw this live on the TV so it jumped out at me immediately. Everyone is wearing clothes. Everyone seems to be doing what they are supposed to. But I ask you, what about the guy in the net? That's right, he skated in there and just camped out for a second.

Now for the crown jewel. I'm sorry I now have to digress back to Nick from hockey. But what you are about to see is so perfect that it could only be last. So far we have just focused on the hilarity of the moment. But what we are neglecting is viewing these contestants as human beings. People with needs, wants, emotions .... and libidos.

That's right. He is cupping her breast. After many, many times of viewing this seemingly innocent touch, Emilie, Kole, and myself came to the conclusion that he did it on purpose. It's true. He did. How do we know this because he tried it later on in the show.

Yet here he is. The Blue Barracudas have just won the tie-breaker to win the Temple Games and this young man sexually assaults his teammate. I would not be lying if I told you by the end of the episode she was stiff arming him to keep him away from her chest.

Pubescence. There is no awkwardness like that.

I hope you enjoyed my moments of TV humor.

Good day.
