How I Will Sink Into Poverty In 2011

Jan 28, 2011 20:06

My favorite thing to do in January is go to all of my favorite review sites (insert shout-out to Manga Bookshelf here) to discover what is coming out that I need to throw money at. While I was disappointed to find that I will have to continue waiting till I can hold "Kinou Nani Tabeta?" in my hands, I did dig up some really ballin' books.

1. "Wandering Son" / coming June 2011

~~~I've been waiting for this forever, namely because it's all about transgender kids. It's not "IS" like I've always dreamed of getting over here, but Wandering Son is a great consolation prize! It's really encouraging to see more and more titles like this getting published in the U.S. and it makes me hopeful that maybe someday trans people won't just be for comedy in our media.
2. "Onwards Towards Our Noble Deaths" / coming May 2011
~~~I really like reading about WWII from non-Allied points of view-- it makes me realize the true extent and devastation of the war. Besides that, this just sounds really, really good.

3. "Sekaiichi Hatsukoi" / coming July 2011
~~~Considering it is by the lady behind the "Junjou Romantica", I've no doubt that this will sell well here, though it's not nearly as well-known as Junjou. I like Junjou okay, but I always liked this series better, primarily because it is set at a publishing company. I eat up anything having to do with books, writers, editors, publishers, etc.
4. "The Betrayal Knows My Name" / coming June 2011
~~~Empathy? Creepy stalker/guardian? Hints of an actual plot in a yaoi? AWESOME TITLE?! I am all over this, and I'd never even heard of it before now.

5. "CLAMP in America" / coming June 2011
~~~I pre-ordered this all the way back in February 2009. Almost two years later and supposedly it is finally coming out soon. Since I've been anticipating this forever I doubt it will live up to my expectations, but I'm still really excited about this book. CLAMP has always been a constant in my manga-reading career and probably will be for a while, so it'll be neat to read the definitive history of the team in the U.S.
Besides these five, I'm eagerly awaiting the last few releases of Fullmetal Alchemist and xxxHolic, the continuing volumes of Nabari no Ou and Black Butler, and to start collecting some series I've been meaning to pick up for a while now ("Chii's Sweet Home", "Natsume's Books of Friends", "Time and Again", "Cromartie High School", "Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei" etc.)
As of writing this, I stand at 314 volumes of manga. Perhaps I can break into 350 by the end of this year...
books, i need a life, collecting, money, manga
