1) Armageddon (1998)
During the filming of this movie, the cast and crew worked around $19 billion worth of equipment, including a real oil rig and real space shuttle.

2) Elizabethtown (2005)
A scene was shot in the John Wayne Airport in Orange County. It was the first time since the terrorist attacks on the USA of 11 September 2001 that a film has shot there. The crew was given only one night to shoot

3) Lord of the Rings Trilogy (2001-2003)
Shelob's shriek is actually the sound of a Tasmanian devil.

4) The Little Mermaid (1989)
This was the last Disney animated feature to use hand-painted cels and analog camera and film work. 1,000 different colors were used on 1,100 backgrounds. Over one million drawings were done in total

5) Stardust (2007)
Miramax originally had the option on ‘Stardust’, but after it expired, Neil Gaiman felt uncomfortable giving up the rights to the film to just anyone. After turning down numerous directors and young actresses who wanted it as a starring vehicle, Gaiman finally gave Stardust's option for free to Matthew Vaughn. This was largely due to the fact that Gaiman trusted Vaughn both as a friend and as someone "who stuck to his word," something Gaiman considered a rarity in Hollywood.

6) The Goonies (1985)
According to Sean Astin, he was allowed to keep the treasure map used in the film. However, the map was lost forever when his mother discovered it several years later, thought it was just a crinkled piece of paper, and threw it in the trash.

7) The Neverending Story (1984)
The original Auryn for this film now hangs in an enclosed glass display in 'Steven Spielberg' 's office

8) The Day after Tomorrow (2004)
.When Sam calls his father to tell him the sewer has backed up into the school, Kirsten Dunst is standing at his elbow, her sweater pulled up over her nose and mouth. Dunst was on set visiting Jake Gyllenhaal, whom she was dating at the time

9) Transformers (2007)
The production of "Transformers" is the largest film project the DoD {Department of Defence} has supported since the film "Blackhawk Down," released in 2001. For the scene where Sam is clinging to a statue at the top of a building, there was no safety harness and so Shia LaBeouf's terror was real. When the Autobots first crash to earth in meteor form, a man with a video camera exclaims, "This is a hundred times cooler than Armageddon!" an allusion to director, Michael Bay's earlier film Armageddon (1998).

10) The Fifth Element (1997)
The language spoken by Leeloo was invented by director Luc Besson and further refined by Milla Jovovich. By the end of filming they were able to have full conversations in this language. Selected as the opening film for the 1997 Cannes Film Festival.
