This was really happening. Of course they talked about it and he knew this day was coming, but for it to be real enough for him to see it was something else entirely. Peter stood with his hands in his pockets unsure of what he should be doing with himself.
“Is this all?” he asked.
“Yep, that’s it,” Sylar confirmed. He stood looking just as awkward as Peter. They’d grown comfortable with each other over the past five years, but that was in Sylar’s head. This was the real world.
“So, ah… I guess you don’t need help moving in,” Peter said as he raked his fingers through his hair. Sylar only brought one box with his clothes inside, so those words were a serious understatement. But Peter didn’t know what else to say.
“Right.” Sylar didn’t make a move to put his clothes away. He seemed to be waiting for Peter.
“You can put those in the closet.”
“Right,” Sylar said again, and picked up the box. Peter followed the taller man into the bedroom and watched Sylar hang up his clothes. It didn’t take long for the box to be emptied.
“That was easy,” Peter commented.
“Yeah.” The two men stared at each other, at a loss. It seemed like such a big deal when Peter asked Sylar to move in with him. For it to go over without any ceremony seemed… strange.
Peter picked up the box and went down to put it in the recycling bin. When he got back Sylar was still standing in the room looking lost. Peter went up behind the taller man, rubbing his back.
“Welcome home,” he murmured.
“Home,” Sylar repeated, smiling.
