Wishes being horses, and all...

I have a half hour (on a good day) commute to work everyday, and I usually spend that listening to music, and sometimes seeing happy little Merlin/Arthur montages in my head to particular songs, and never feel the need to do anything about it. But there's this one song I've heard recently and it's completely hijacked my brain and made me wish that either a) I knew how to vid or, b) knew any vidders that I could coerce.

Okay, so the song, don't laugh - O Come O Come Emmanuel by Enya. Seriously. I know it's a hymn, but this version has got these great minor, unresolved chords going on in the background that make it sound really ominous and epic. And the words just seem perfect for Arthur:

O come, o come emmanuel,
To free your captive Israel.
That mourns in lonely exile here,
Until the Son of God appear.

Rejoice! Rejoice!
O Israel, to you shall come Emmanuel.

See, Emmanuel would be Arthur, and it would be about the people (and Merlin esp) yearning for the day Arthur becomes king, freeing Camelot (Israel) from Uther's tyranny. I'm picturing the scene from 1.13 with all the people out in the courtyard holding vigil with candles, and generally Arthur being heroic and Merlin saving him with magic.

The next verse is sung in latin, more beautiful minor chords, and then, right at the end, it switches to a bright, ray-of-sunlight major key and that would be Arthur being crowned, with the clip from The Black Knight, probably, and Merlin smiling dazzlingly at him.

Obviously, I think this is genius :)

ION, I've just started a Merlin/Arthur future!fic, which was rather unexpected but kind of hit me in the car earlier. A shorty this time, I think, which is a bit of a relief, so hopefully I'll finish it tomorrow.

fandom: merlin, wishful thinking
