The Soul Lies Down: Master Post [WIP]

Nov 03, 2014 20:56

Title: The Soul Lies Down
Pairing(s): Buffy/Spike, (Anya/Xander, Willow/Tara)
Rating: NC-17
Length: ~71,000 to date (last updated June '16)
Timeline: AU S5, S6, S7 and post-series
Warnings: character death, violence and gore
Summary: As a child, I used to dream of a man in black and white, spinning in the desert like a dervish, sword flashing in the moonlight as he danced with death. (A sequel to angearia's Fin Amour).
Notes: I read Fin Amour a while back and was incredibly moved by it. But I was also fascinated by the imagery and symbolism in the desert scene (not to mention, devastated by the ending). My brain wouldn't let it go, so I started to write this. I'm fairly certain you'll need to read that fic first, so if you haven't, run don't walk! And if the ending makes you sad, well... sequel, here! Huge, huge thanks to angearia, rahirah, yavannie82 and Bewildered who have all beta'd at various times and for various chapters. This story would not be half so good without them, and I mean that from the bottom of my heart. Thank you also to chasingdemons, who made the absolutely stunning banner below. Concrit is welcome. Also available on Elysian Fields.

Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing,
there is a field. I'll meet you there.

When the soul lies down in that grass,
the world is too full to talk about.
Ideas, language, even the phrase
each other
doesn't make any sense.
