Game of Thrones 2.01

I finally managed to watch it at about midnight last night (gotta love two weeks off work just as the new season starts!)

In short, pretty awesome episode. I am just about reconciled with the fact that the TV characters are not the same as the book characters, so I'm hoping I can enjoy this season in a slightly less anal way ;)

Lena Headey continues to be the most awesome HBIC of them all. I've always loved her portrayal of Cersei (probably because book!Cersei turned out to be such a disappointment), but the bit where she reminds Littlefinger who the boss is? *happy shivers* "Power is power." Yeah! And don't you forget it, you skeevy little shit! \o/ Although, of course, humiliating Petyr is almost certain to come back and bite her in the arse. Still, it was enjoyable to watch *g*

Sophie Turner as Sansa looks omgsopretty this season, and she does depressed/detached Sansa very, very well. I would have liked a little more build up into the scene with Ser Dontos, though. And really, given the amount of nudity in this show, why would they cut out Dontos's peen? Not that I particularly wanted to see it, but, you know, that nudity actually has a point because you see just how drunk, ridiculous and pathetic he is. Here, he just stumbles in looking a bit hapless, like an older Sam. I felt like we didn't really understand Sansa's sympathy for him. (And having changed Joff's nameday tourney into some weird fight-to-the-death, why would Sansa even feel like she needed to save him, if he was likely to die in the fight anyway???)

Speaking of, I don't really understand the Hound's sympathy for Sansa in this version. Maybe it's just Rory McCann, IDK. But I will shut up about that now because I don't want to harsh anyone's Hound!squee...

Jon getting a Strongly Worded Talking To will never not make me happy, because he is whiny and emo, so yay go Lord Mormont! But where was Ghost?

DIREWOLVES!!!!!!!! Yes! No Ghost, but Grey Wind was amazing. I loved the scene between Robb and Jaime, and that enormous direwolf cramming itself into Jaime's tiny prison was just *shivers* so cool.

Is it me, or have they made more changes to Catelyn? I thought she wanted to stay with Robb? But they had her say she wanted to return to Winterfell? Whyyy???? What's so wrong with an ambitious female character? :( That said, I cannot wait for her to go south, because that means Brienne ♥

In conclusion: need more GoT icons!
