Walk a mile in her shoes; but only if you get out of the apartment first.

I had a great time last night at the biwot movie night.  We watched The Secrets (not to be confused with the self-help movie The Secret). The main character is like a Jewish Kate Winslet and it's filled with interesting religious and feminist issues.  I  had some issues with some of the characterizations, and the ending isn't a queer Hollywood feel-good, but the story and locus are interesting.  They leave a lot of things unexplored, which means you actually have to think - not everyone's idea of a fun film, but perfect for the situation in which we watched it.  As an added bonus, they got the theology correct, which is a nice change. If you watch the trailer, just be aware that it's chock full of spoilers.  Also, it's pretty much all in French or Hebrew.
It was nice to see the folks I've gotten to know from games and movie nights again, and to see some women that I usually only see at pride.  I always enjoy talking with L., who I only see once a year.

Funny moment of the night for me.  I'm getting ready to go, and I put on my shoes, but they don't seem to be closing properly.  They feel weird and I can't seem to figure out why.  I'm practically out the door when a woman I'd just met that night comes over and says, I think you have my shoes.  She's holding a pair of identical shoes which are one size too small for her.  I laughed with mortification.  The host says "Payless," joking that we'd bought the same shoes.  I didn't have the nerve to say that I'd gotten mine from Value Village.

Today I'm heading out to a clothing swap at 2:00 pm. I justify this to myself because I have just finished the first draft of my AAR paper, which I'm presenting in 13 days.  I still haven't heard who is responding (if anyone) and when I have to email them a copy of the paper.
