The phone rang a few minutes ago, and my caller ID said "Private" and gave the phone number of the caller, which was nearby, since the area code and first three digits were the same as my number. So let me try to understand this: someone phones me, thinks I will pick up the phone, but somehow blocks his or her name from showing up on my readout. The illogical nature of this, from my perspective, has to do with hiding one's identity from someone the caller wants to contact. Does the caller want to surprise me when I say hello, by being someone he or she thinks I won't suspect as being the caller? Is the caller afraid that someone might intercept the call and know who is making it? Does the caller not want me to know who is calling because he or she knows that, if I did know, there is every likelihood that I would ignore the call? Or is the caller simply paranoid and stupid, not able to analyze all aspects of the situation? I never pick up the phone if the ID is "Private" or "Unavailable."
