It just seems that things that should and used to take a few minutes now take a half hour to accomplish. It may be because I'm a geezer and just can't function efficiently any longer, or U.S. corporations, all of them, have made every single transaction obfuscatory. For the past few years and until the past month or so, I have used, almost exclusively, a credit card issued through one of the major department store chains. The expiration date on the card was still over a year away when another card appeared in the mail, unrequested by me. Why now? The letter on which the card was stuck said that the old card was no longer valid and that I'd have to phone and activate the new card. Now, what the hell is that all about? I had just decided to start using another credit card that I got about two months ago and was (and probably still am) going to cancel the department store's credit card; so going through all the rigmarole for the new card was an annoyance. I would not have had to do all that if I had not overlooked removing it from the Amazon payment options list, and it's certainly not that I am short of time (otherwise, why would I be composing this LJ post?). I just don't like to spend time doing things for no reason whatsoever. Apparently, the unemployment problem isn't affecting some companies: to wit, those that have people doing absolutely useless things.
