Grilling outdoors was always fun )
He did, however, pick up a bag of M&M's. If they were pink and red, well, it tasted the same to him. He'd dropped off a bag for Ruth, figuring she'd like some sweet, given her current state.
He knocked and let himself in. "Hey. Smells good in here." He licked his lips. He'd finally gotten used to a schedule of sorts - or would once he met the new contractor. Seemed like he was going to have a different boss, one who contacted Jack directly. He wasn't sure how he felt about that, but was grateful that he still had a job with Jack, in any case.

He grinned at his best friend. "How's life, man? Work treating you well?" He was really glad to see Max. He knew his best friend would distract him from musing over the email he'd gotten earlier.

"Hey. Good, good. Ruth's moved, did I tell you? Turns out my job has a garage apartment and she was agreeable to Ruth renting from her." He grinned. "Got most of the repairs done, now that the weather's holding. Should be starting with the crew for the rest of the work soon." He shrugged. "How's business? No new death disasters lately I hope." He kidded.

"She is? Good for her. Bet life is a little more calmer now, isn't it?" Jay had liked Ruth but mm, the situation from what he understood it to be was a difficult one. "That's good. So everything is straightened out and all's good. Where are you working again? " Jay asked as he took a sip of his beer. He was sure that Max had told him, but his memory was sort of coming and going right now. He blamed the weather. This kind of weather always made him more susceptible to the fibro brain fog.
"No new death disasters, not like Johnny. And it looks like Peter Parker's going to be taking Johnny's place on the team." Jay shrugged, "Other than that, business is good. Got someone looking at an overhaul of the website, which is awesome and needed."

"Well, less crying." Max said, taking a sip of tequila, enjoying the burn. "Working on a house over in the JPS neighborhood. Nice area. Finishing repair work, waiting to start renovations." He frowned at Jay. "You feeling alright?" He tugged a chair over. Jay probably needed to take meds, but was forgoing it to drink with him. He felt a bit guilty on that.
"Huh. Well, interstellar or insect-based mutations, they'll have to find their way." Max cocked his head. "Oh? Someone good I hope."

"Sounds good, one of the docs wanting some new additions to the house? That kind of thing?" Jay was curious. He smiled fondly at the question Max asked him, "Yeah, dude. Just my memory going. Part of getting old, so they tell me."
He flipped the steaks over. Two more minutes and they'd be perfect. "Yeah, I'm curious about how they'll pull it all off without Johnny there. Peter was one of Johnny's best friends so... it'll be interesting. And yeah, the kid looks like he's really got what it takes to make it look great as well as being a comics nerd. And you know me, I'll take a really enthusiastic amateur who cares about the comics over a professional who doesn't care about it at all."

"She's in social work, I think. Bought a fixer upper, and is just now making it more her own." He took another sip. "Bet your age has less to do with it than you being fuzzy from hurting." He gave him a stern look. "Do I gotta sit on you?"
"Plus, how's Sue going to deal? Too soon to fill that kind of hole, if you ask me." He listened. "Sounds good. You get plenty of enthusiasts at your place, not near enough to follow through on this sort of thing."
"So, have you called any of the girls you were dancing with the other week? Cause I know you got phone numbers even if you didn't brag."

"Do you need me to spell you at the store? Get an early night?" Max could do that. Wasn't hard, and he could do homework while he sat there.
"Good times, man. Some good publicity will get you more business."
"Does this mean I'm getting recalled for wingman duty?" He frowned in dismay. "Can't you at least go somewhere that does slow shuffling dances?"

"And yeah, at some point if you have time, that'd be awesome." Jay sighed, "I really need to get a full time assistant though. Don't suppose you know anyone looking for a part-time or hell, even a full-time job? Because the website will drag in more of the fold and while I love comics and they are kind of my life - it's nice to see real people outside of the job."
Jay fixed them both plates. "Sure, if you want, man. I'll be sure to Google that." He shot his best friend a teasing grin. "What sides do you want, man? I've got baked potatoes, normal and sweet, and then some green veggie stuff. And garlic biscuits."

"Have you posted an ad? Can't imagine there isn't someone looking for work. Though that can be hit or miss." Max leaned against the counter, glass in hand.
"Didn't say I minded being a wingman, but being a dancing wingman..." He mad a face. "That was an awkward night. Can do better than that." He looked at Jay, rolled his yes. "All of the above, dumbass." He could always pack away Jay's excellent cooking.

"I did a while back, but I've got to get back on it. Be more proactive than I have been."
"Mm you're probably right." Jay thought about it. Maybe find a place that offered both pool playing and dancing. That would be fantastic.
He laughed again as he heaped Max's plate with food. "Here you go, man." There would be extras to send home with him too.
