The brisk weather was good for riding, and it was kind of cool to be out here doing it during the week. Rori time was generally relegated to the weekends, but at some point that had changed. Really, there was no reason they shouldn't see each other during the week just because things were busy--and maybe being busy was all the more reason to take the time out. Thanksgiving would be a busy day, and they weren't likely to have time to themselves.
It felt weird, a little, not to be going home (she wondered when she'd stop calling Boston home). But it would feel weirder to spend the holiday away from Rori, and her parents had been disappointed, but it was for the best. She'd told them she might need to work--which was the truth even though she was really hoping she wouldn't be called in, but still. At some point she wanted to not have to choose between her family and her girlfriend, but she really wasn't at that point yet. Tobias had said that was okay, that she shouldn't feel guilty about it, but it was hard not to, especially at the holidays.
Ava adjusted Cannon's bridle, rubbing a hand down her face affectionately. A ride on a very-pregnant horse would definitely be a leisurely one, but she was kind of in the mood for that anyway. And it was dark out already, which was nice too. She didn't ride at night often. "She's getting bigger and bigger," she said to Rori as she fastened the buckles. "But she'll be okay for a slow ride?"
