He and Dess had messed around some, kissed, but never had quite gotten to this point. There had been occasions he’d thought about it, of course, but they’d both been rather busy and it just hadn’t happened. He didn’t regret it, though, and he was glad it was Neve. He had always trusted her, and that built up trust went a long way now when he did feel a little more vulnerable than he ever had during something like this. “You’re a little bit crazy, you know that,” he said, part amused, but mostly just comforted by her firm and sincere words. “I’ll get more comfortable,” he said softly, knowing he would, given time. At least she really did know, he thought. She didn’t come into this thinking it would be perfect, that he was perfect

When this had started between them, Neve wasn't sure how it would go, but as things moved forward she found herself wanting more and more. Before this she had been attached to Jake as a friend, counted on him for a lot. Now, though she was attached to him in an entirely different way, she wanted a future with him, she trusted him, and could even see herself falling in love with him. "You know there's repercussions to calling your girlfriend crazy, right?" She asked, fighting the mischievous smirk that wanted to appear as she moved to get off his lap. "I know." She replied simply, honestly. She had no illusions about anything, was looking at this all realistically, and accepted that it wouldn't be easy. When were relationships ever easy, though

Jake chuckled lowly and tugged on her hips, moving her close again when she tried to move off. He was strong, though he would never truly keep someone somewhere like that against their will. "Never said it was a bad thing, my dear," he told her quietly, grinning at her.
He cuddled her close, pressing her to his chest and kissing her neck sweetly as he hugged her against him. He was still breathing a big hard, too, and he needed the comfort of her close to him. That had been... yeah. "Yeah... uh huh, y're... mmhm." He didn't really have the words either, couldn't quite find them yet.
Neve couldn't stop the giggle that came out of her as Jake pulled her closer to him again, aware in that moment how much strength he actually possessed. She knew he was strong, had always known that, though it wasn't a strength that frightened her. In a way it was kind of thrilling, knowing he could keep her right here, and yet she also knew he wouldn't hold her against her will. "So you like your women a little crazy?" She murmured, quirking an eyebrow before she leaned in and kissed him softly.
She practically melted into Jake's arms, a shiver running through her as he kissed her neck. She loved that, loved that fact that he was so carefree with showing his affection. As she tried to steady her own breathing, she slid one hand up to card into his hair, fingers twining into it. The sheer fact that Jake was nearly as speechless as she was sent another thrill through her, that she did that to him, well that was heady. "Speechless?" She murmured, still not sure she could hold an entire conversation, still gathering her wits.
Jake chuckled deeply as she giggled. She liked that, which was good. He was strong, and he liked to use his strength in moderation, at least. And if she enjoyed it, all to the better. "Mm, I like you a little crazy," he said, grinning at her before leaning back into the kiss.
Jake was an affectionate man, always had been. He'd been raised to show his affection, and he loved doing so. He made a content sound in the back of his throat, rubbing her back softly. "A bit, yeah," he whispered back. He reached up to stroke her hair, sighing softly as he caught his breath and his heart slowed. "Fantastic," he murmured.
Neve liked to hear Jake laugh, for awhile it had seemed like such a rare thing. She was realizing thought that he wasn't as often in a dark mood these days, and she wasn't going to think it was because of her, even if she liked the idea that she made him that happy. "And if I was a lot crazy, would you like that to?" she asked, the words murmured against his lips as he leaned back into the kiss.
She couldn't help the way she hummed as he made a happy contented noise while his hand moved over her back lightly. The fact that he was slightly at a loss for words was definitely an ego boost, not that she would say it. She closed her eyes and sighed happily as he murmured 'fantastic', though she wasn't sure that word even came close to what this was. "Mmmhmm." She murmured against his chest, still trying to find something to say that made any kind of coherent sense. "You're amazing." So the words might be cliche, but that didn't mean she didn't think that Jake was in fact an amazing man, and not just because of this.
Jake ran his fingers back through her hair, nipping lightly at her lip. "Depends on what a lot crazy entails," he said. "But it's you, so I probably would like it." And that was the truth. He liked anything Neve did, really, so far, in this and just in their relationship. She had a knack of knowing what to say when he needed to hear something.
He chuckled deeply at her words, kissing up to the soft spot behind her ear, lips soft and gentle. "Glad y'think so," he murmured. "Pretty 'mazing yourself." He nuzzled against her neck. She was more than amazing, she was incredible. She wanted him, said as much, acted as much. He couldn't really see why, when this might be as normal a sex life as he was capable of, but he pushed those worries away for now, enjoying the moment.
Neve's eyes slipped closed and she made a content little noise as his fingers ran through her hair and he nipped at her lip. "Three a.m. phones calls while I'm working just because I wanted to hear your voice?" she wasn't sure if that was considered crazy, but she wouldn't write it off as something she might do. "Or I've just finished with a really troubling patient." And she was reminded in that moment how she had called Zach's sister Leah after Jake's accident, the memory of that night would probably forever be seared in her mind. "So you'll like any kind of crazy I might throw at you?" She asked, trying to push past the thought of Jake's accident and just how shook up she had been that night
( ... )
"You can call anytime. I don't mind," he murmured. He'd worked nights or series of days being on call at the firehouse. He knew how hard it was, and how sometimes all you wanted when you were tired or heartsore was someone on the other end. "I'd like it if you called me when something's going on." His hands brushed through her hair. That she would turn to him like that warmed his heart. "Yeah, I think I will. So far I've liked it very much." He grinned at her.
That almost purr warmed him greatly. "Y'are too," he argued softly. He thought she really was, and it continually amazed him that she was a part of his life like this. He would try to make sure she believed it too, because if she thought he was, she was doubly so, in his mind.
Somehow just hearing the words from him, knowing he wouldn't mind if she called him at all hours just to hear his voice, it made her feel better. "You'll be my first phone call then." She realized in that moment that Jake was almost always her first phone call when something terrible happened. Giggling, she just shook her head. "Think that makes you a little crazy for enjoying my own personal brand of crazy." She commented, leaning in to press another kiss to the corner of his mouth.
Shaking her head, she laughed softly. "Am not." she argued back, though the smirk tugging at the corners of her mouth proved she was mostly joking now. Though she didn't think she was as amazing as he seemed to think she was, she really wasn't the sort to seriously argue against someone else's opinion.
"Good. I'd like to be that," JAke said. He'd started finding during the summer that she became his first call in most all situations. They'd always been friends, but they'd become even better friends this year, and this felt like a natural progression of that. "Mm, I might be a little, but I also happen to really like your personal brand of crazy," he said, kissing her again.
"Are too," he murmured with a smile, leaning in to press his lips to her cheek gently. They thought each other was special, and that was all that really mattered, and he'd be happy to spend time convincing her of it. He wanted time with her, to see where this would go, to see if he was really falling for her as hard as he thought he might, because he was thinking lately that he really was doing so.
"Honestly, you already are." Neve said, the realization really had struck her that he was. Besides calling Ezra first because he was Erica's friend, Jake had been her second phone call, and that was just one instance over the summer. "Lucky for you I kin of like my guy to be a little crazy as well." She remarked, humming contentedly into the kiss.
"Am not, am not, am not." She chorused before breaking into giggles, feeling particularly happy and silly at the moment, hiding her face against his chest as she laughed. There was no denying that she thought Jake was kind of amazing, and she really did think she was maybe falling for him hard, a fact that both surprised and pleased her.
