Elliot had been trying to think of a way to thank Carrie for everything she’d done for him in these past few months. He came up woefully short of a way to tell her how much it all meant to him, how much she meant to him. But he had to express it somehow, to try to tell her.
It hadn’t gone past him how tired and stressed she was lately, and he tried to help, sent texts and called her and tried to be there for her, even if he didn’t know precisely what to do. He wanted to help, wanted her to turn to him, but he had the feeling that his own issues might be pushing her away from doing that, though he would rather she come to him with whatever was bothering her.
So he had to do something. He stopped by his favorite sandwich shop, and got several types wrapped up to go. She could eat when she had time, and maybe something would tempt her. He also bought
a bright bouquet of flowers, and he tucked the CD he’d burned for her back in his pocket. It was so very little, and yet, he hoped it would at least make her smile.
He slipped in, smiling at Dodger and nodding at her when she let him slide in the back, looking for Carrie on his lunch break. He couldn’t stay long, but he could stay for a few minutes, at least.
