When Priya pulled in front of the kitchen supply store, she didn't get out of her Explorer immediately, instead pulling out her phone to whip out a few quick emails to people she'd gotten information from over the years. Meaningless chatter like How've you been or How are the wife/kids that was utter bullshit but also necessary if she didn't want her sources to dry up. It was her preferred activity whenever she was waiting for someone. In this case she was waiting for the floor manager to show up for his shift, so she could take a few photos and possibly have a casual conversation with him to find out why he hadn't been showing up for mediation hearings with his wife.
It wasn't an entirely work-related stop. She knew they did free knife-sharpening here, and she'd noticed some of hers were dull when she'd been cutting vegetables for spaghetti last week. This would be a good chance to watch the man for a bit as well as take care of an errand. The week was nearly out, and she hadn't yet found time to make a pot. If she could set aside some time for it this evening, she knew it would relax her, as it always did.
When she spotted a man with a nametag making his way toward the entrance, Priya checked him against the photo in her file, then grabbed her satchel of knives and got out of her car, crossing the street and slipping inside the store. She wasn't in a rush, knowing his break wouldn't be for two hours, so she browsed the shelves idly. There were only a few dishes she could cook really well, but that was more due to lack of time than lack of interest, and she liked having a well-appointed kitchen.
