She looked up as River chuckled under his breath. "I never know if I should be frightened or intrigued when you laugh like that," she teased, looking back down to finish pressing together the latest batch of batter for scones. "Maybe I should just settle for setting aside some money for your bail. What's the joke?" As he leaned against the counter, brushing at his apron and beginning a short French ditty she immediately recognized - one unfortunately learned from Lis - she rolled her eyes with a chuckle of her own. "My mistake. Note to self, never ask when your boss has been complaining about having an earwo-..." Carrie jumped as her pocket suddenly buzzed, flushing as River snorted in amusement. "Oh, go away, horrid man," she laughed, swiping a hand at her apron before pulling her 'phone out and flipping it open, forgoing her usual glance at the caller-ID.

"Afternoon." She stuck her tongue out at River as he snickered again, then turned her head pointedly away, her voice rich with amusement. "Carrie Harper speaking."
