Ariel thought this was just the ticket right now. She had always been thrifty, and lately it was paying off as she squirreled more and more money, slowly, into her little stash of savings. Soon she was even considering getting a bank account. It would be the first time ever for her.

"I don't think you'll ever get enough of those," Ariel said with a grin as she fingered a pretty little watch. It was nice, but it needed a new battery from the looks of it. She put it back down in favor of fingering a pretty little scarf.

She looked over at another booth. "Oooh, shoes. I wonder if they'll have anything in our sizes," she said, perking. It had been awhile since she'd bought a pair of shoes.

"Nah, you're right." She shrugged and slipped the stack onto a free finger on her right hand and then held her hand out, wiggling her fingers so they'd catch some of the light. "I feel like shopping's a bad idea with my current financial deal, but a lot of this stuff's dirt cheap, so whatever."

She bought the rings, talking the merchant down a little bit because she was buying the set and one of them was a little loose, then joined Ariel by the shoes. "Shoes are iffy sometimes," she said, poking through a pair, "finding the right fit and all. But looks like they got a bunch to choose from. You'd look good in these." She handed over a pair of red flats.

"I shouldn't be doing too much either, but these are cheap and pretty." And she was used to having stuff like that, and in general had a good eye for the nice looking stuff. She'd always had to work on a very limited budget.

"Yeah, but sometimes you find that gem." She grinned as Harley picked up a set of red shoes. "Oooh, dude, you are such a mindreader. I've had an eye out for a pair of red shoes. I want to do little red riding hood for Halloween, I think." Though she wasn't sure if she would do heels or flats, though if she was going to be out for awhile... she looked at the shoes speculatively.

"Yeah, I'm just that good." Harley snorted as Ariel took the shoes, and drifted to a pair of boots for herself. Like she didn't have enough boots. "Red Riding Hood, huh? You and your fairytales," she said with a little smile as she tested the wear on pair of blue Docs that had definitely seen better days. "You should get 'em. They're nice and bright, and you don't want to spend a ton of money on something you're wearing as part of a costume."

She tilted her head as she put the Docs down. She already had some in red and black anyway. "Haven't really thought about Halloween yet. Never really celebrated it before, except for when Reen gets all festive at the garage and then it's just like a witch hat usually, and some makeup that's a tiny bit more out there than what I usually wear," she joked.

"I know, I know, ridiculous right? I just found some red fabric that's pretty though, mostly." The one thing her mom had done gorwing up was tell her fairy tales, though. Like that would magically transport them somewhere else or make everything better. Ariel both wished for them sometimes and didn't believe in them, though perhaps deep down there was a hope that things would end well.

She slipped off her shoe and tried the red flat on, testing it out. Mmm, not a bad fit, only the slightest bit big. "I've been hearing about a few parties. I used to help out with a few mothers by making costumes, earned me a few bucks on the side, so I guess it's old habit to keep an ear out at this time of year. Figured maybe I'd hit one up." She shrugged. "You should do something too, it's always an excuse to dress different at least for one night." To be a princess or a fairy or someone ou wished you could be.

"Nope, not ridiculous. Just you," she said with a shrug, then leaned over to nudge Ariel with her elbow. Ariel'd seemed kind of fanciful for about as long as Harley had known her. She couldn't really relate to it, but if she really thought about it, it was nice that some people could still be like that after going through stuff. "'sides, some of those fairy tales are cool."

She nodded. "Oh, I've done Halloween parties a couple times in the last few years, they're hard to avoid and they're usually a good time. But if I do go I'm always a bad sport because I don't dress up." She laughed, toying with the rings she'd just bought. "Figure I look badass enough already. But I don't know, maybe I'll try it this year, if you are. Go somewhere fun and actually put some thought into a costume." She'd never done stuff like that growing up, that she could remember. Maybe once with Thad, when she'd been really small. "Dunno what I'd be, though."

Ariel grinned as Harley nudged her. She knew she was silly, and that such notions were stupid--she'd been told so enough in the past--but it was nice to dream every now and then. "Some of them are... and some of them are violent and bloody and amusing in their own rights as well." Especially the old shit.

"Awww, well, you should dress up this year. I'm sure I can help you throw something together. Make you an evil queen or a gothic fairy or something. I have stuff at home, I could probably make something up pretty quick if you don't have stuff you can throw together." She tilted her head, regarding Harley. "I mean, dude, there's a lot you could do, and some of it comes with simple parts."

"Yeah. Some of them were kinda more like cautionary tales than anything else," she agreed, then glanced down at the red shoes and smirked slightly. "Don't trust strangers in the woods."

"Nah, I can't put you to work A, least not before I go home and look through all my shit," Harley said with a laugh. She knew Ariel was seriously talented, but didn't want to take advantage or something. "Probably got a pretty good start at home somewhere with all the crap I've collected over the years. Maybe inspiration'll strike." She chuckled and raised a brow. "Evil queen, huh? Thought we were supposed to dress up different from usual."

She gestured to the shoes. "So how about it, Red, you buying those? We can talk them down to an even better price."

"Little girls watch out for the big bad wolf," Ariel drawled, smirking faintly and winking over at Harley. Though she knew what things were like with a real bad guy, bad boy looks were still attractive.

"I don't mind. Costumes are fun. But you do that and we can add on whatever to what you have when you make a decision." And Harley could pull off a lot, she thought. She burst out laughing at her next comment though. "Oh come now, Harley, evil? You're only wicked," she teased, amused by it all.

"Mm, sure. You wanna do my haggling? You've got a knack for it even I don't," she said. The better deal she could get the better off her bank account--when she got one--would be. "So how's things been? You and Thad doin' all right?"

"Pretty much. Anyway, wolves are overrated," Harley said, rolling her eyes. She'd had enough bad boys to last the rest of her life.

"You've never been on my bad side." She snorted and kept poking through the shoes in case something jumped out at her. "And yeah, okay. I'll let you know, and maybe one day you could come over and we can put our outfits together or something." Might be fun.

Her eyes brightened as she took the shoes from Ariel, relishing the chance to haggle. "With pleasure," she said as she approached the merchant, starting at less than half the price and then letting him talk her up a little from there. That way he felt more accomplished and they still saved money. When they were done, she handed the bag over to Ariel.

"No sweat. And Thad's good--he got a job," she grinned, "you know, full-time. So he'll probably be able to move soon." Which might suck a little, if she let herself think about it, but it wasn't like he'd be leaving town or anything.

"Mmm, true, but I don't think you're that bad," Ariel said honestly, though she could see how Harley could be very bad ass at times. she admired that quality, actually, and sometimes wished she could be more like Harley. "Sounds good. I'd like that," she said with a grin.

She laughed softly as Harley took of and started to dicker a deal with the man, enjoying how much Harley enjoyed it. "You rock, Harley," she said, taking the bag from her and tucking her wallet back in her purse after paying the money. It was a deal, so she didn't begrudge it at all.

"Awesome! Where's he working at then?" she said, thrilled that Thad had finally found something full time. He had to be happy about that, she thought. She knew she was on his behalf. "Though I bet you'll miss him when he's gone." She wrinkled her nose, knowing how easy it was to get used to someone else sharing your space.

"He's assisting some photographer," she said. "He's pretty excited about it, but I'm guessing it's more the paycheck than anything that's got him pumped." She laughed, though she wondered. He didn't know anything about photography as far as she knew, but maybe he'd learn something. "Gives him a little more freedom and maybe he won't be as worried about stuff." And she wouldn't be either.

"Might miss him some. Got used to having him around," she said with a shrug as she put a hand in her back pocket. "Kinda weird. But anyway, it's a good thing I guess. I'll have my space back and such."

She looked over at Ariel as they passed a few more stalls. "How've you been doing?"

"A photographer, huh? I would never have guessed something like that," she admitted. Thad didn't really seem the sort, but art was art and he did tattoos on himself, so there was that. "But at least he has a good gig now and he'll be earning some more money." Which was always good.

"Yeah, it'll be different." Sometimes, especially when she'd first moved down here, she'd missed having someone to come home to--Josh, her granddaddy, there had always been somebody else in her place. She hadn't lived alone until she'd been here, and even now she had a roommate, even if her and Brielle weren't BFFs or anything.

Ariel shrugged. "Okay I guess. Been keeping lower key than usual, and still doing alllll the work, of course," she said, rolling her eyes slightly. She still took as many hours as she always had, partly out of habit and partly because she did still need the money. Or at least felt like she did.

"Me neither." Harley shrugged. If it was between some photographer or Ciaran's creeper ass, she wasn't going to ask too many questions. "I don't know much about it to be honest, but he's not taking pictures or anything, just doing general stuff. Figure for him, it beats stacking boxes in a warehouse or whatever most people'd hire him for. And he's always been kinda artsy." She nodded. "He's doing some sort of arts and crafts festival thing on Saturday, for his job. I might check it out." She was curious about the guy he was working for and what all he was doing ( ... )

"Definitely beats that, and maybe he'll learn something, make some good connections, yeah?" Ariel suggested, smiling slightly. She would add that to her list of things to pray about. That this would work out for him and bring him better things. "I heard about that thing, but I didn't know 'bout it in time to like, set up or anything like some people. Lots of crafters apparently, thought I'd see what it's all about and see what's up with it." And if she was here next year, well, who knew.

She grinned. "Neater than you, oh the horror," she said lightly. "I hope he does... I wasn't sure if he would or not, or if he was just sayin' it 'cause he was being nice to me."

Ariel shrugged, slightly uncomfortable but knowing that Harley would have noticed that kind of thing. "Don't go out as much as I used to," she admitted. "It's stupid, I know." She just wished she could figure out what she did that drew people to hurting her.

"Hopefully. I hear connections are good," she said with a little laugh, because she'd never been the best at making them. She was doing a little better lately, though. "Yeah? Figured that might be your kind of thing, you're like the main craft guru-type I know. Might see you there, then."

"He's not one to just be nice," she said, then paused and added, "I mean, yeah, he totally is, he can be downright gooey sometimes--but not with you or anything. He's into it, the knitting. It's a trip." She snorted and stopped to look at some scarves.

Harley simply nodded. "It's not stupid," she said firmly. "Even I might be a little gun-shy. Shouldn't let that asshole stop you from having fun, though."
