If Darcy had to create another plain old bouquet of roses today, she thought she might scream. She liked roses, the colors and scent and elegance of them. But it was only lunch time, and she’d already filled six orders for roses. It wasn’t a lot, really, but she didn’t understand why people couldn’t get more creative. Roses were traditional, sure, but love wasn’t predictable. It should be honored in bouquets of tulips or carnations or a mixture of everything. None of her old boyfriends had ever given her flowers, probably because she wasn’t so outwardly girly most of the time or maybe because she worked in a flower shop, but she liked to think that they would have chosen something that reminded them of her, not just an easy traditional order that didn’t require much thought at all.
Since the morning had been busy and the shop was fully staffed today, Darcy decided to go out for lunch. She tried to get out of the shop once a week, at least, and it was a nice day to walk down Magnolia to find somewhere to eat. It was hot again, after a few days when she thought the temperature might finally be turning autumnish, but she decided to walk down to Yucatan so she could sit outside and breathe some fresh air. She loved flowers, but roses were a strong fragrance, so it was good to clear her head a little. When she got back from lunch, she’d work on an arrangement for a new mother that would be fun, and she needed to prepare some deliveries that had to go out by four.
She thought about the deliveries during the walk, and that made her think about the ivy that someone had ordered. She found herself wondering if Dimples liked his plants, since he’d taken a chance and chosen two that she’d suggested. It wouldn’t be good for business if he wasn’t happy with them. Dolly was just being an annoying grump when he got all smug and asked if the guy was cute, as if that was the only reason she cared about customer satisfaction. It wasn’t like she’d gone stalking him at the library or anything like that. She just worried that she’d chosen the wrong plants.
The lunch crowd at Yucatan wasn’t too bad, but the outdoor seating was more crowded. She was seated at one of the empty tables and ordered a glass of raspberry tea before opening the menu. Everything sounded good, which meant she must be hungry.
