She went into her room and closed the door.

A little more firmly than maybe she needed to have done. But only just a little.

She loved her cousin. And her cousin's children, who made her laugh and smile, and just generally be happy. Except lately, when she wanted to stuff them all into boxes and ship them to Timbuktu or some other wonderfully distant place where she wouldn't have to hear the recently constant whining. Half the time, she wasn't even sure what it was about, which just made it even more frustrating. And it seemed like nothing she could do would help -- she already helped chauffeur and do errands or chores when she could. It just didn't feel like enough, and in the meantime, she couldn't help starting to feel more like she was infringing on their already-smallish space after being here seven months. She didn't mind sharing a bathroom with the kids, or helping out, but it felt like she was almost an intruder sometimes.

And, she admitted to herself as she sat on her bed and swung her feet up, it would be nice to have her own space again. Have a bathroom with no toothpaste messages or toys under foot because the boys had randomly brought them in and forgotten them. A slightly bigger bedroom, so she could put her things out, instead of the hastily (and really only mostly) converted den/office into which Paula had moved a borrowed day-bed for her. And maybe even have friends over, or have lessons at home for the students who needed one-on-one attention, since she didn't feel comfortable imposing on her cousin to have things company-clean when she was already so busy.

She tugged her knees up to her chest and thought. With word of mouth starting to get around a little bit, she was picking up a new student here and there, and Mr. Moore seemed to like her well enough that maybe she'd be able to teach the next quarter at Serenity. And she had her savings...

Leaning back against the headboard, she bit her lip. Paula might miss the second driver and the help, but she could still at least do Isabel's school-runs in the morning, since the boys were closer to Paula's office-park. And she could get all of them in the afternoon. It was something to think about, so she didn't go to her cousin empty-handed when she broached the topic.

She just needed to figure out where to start.
