"There's a big table over there," Ariel said, standing on her tip toes to look and point. "Should we grab that one?"
She'd never been to this place before, actually, but it would be interesting to see what it was like. She could always use another place to go to when she went out for a beer and some fun.

"I scoped this place out last week, and the DJ's pretty good," she said, dropping into a chair. "You want something to drink to start? Duck's bringing Thad, they should be here soon, but I don't mind pre-gaming if you don't."
Reply
"Oh, nice. I've never heard of it, but it seems real nice." A little higher class than some of the places she usually visited, if she were to be perfectly honest. "I'll take a beer, I think. And I got something for ya when you get the chance, so I dunno if you want them before the boys get here or whatever."

"Figured we might as well go all out." She looked around, flagging one of the traveling drink servers and holding up two fingers. She looked at Ariel, touched already. "Dude, you didn't," she said, but she was smiling. "And yeah, whenever you want really."

Ariel dug the package out of her bag. The wrapping was simple, and it could be stuffed back in her bag when she was done. She tossed it over to Harley. She suspected that Harley would like it, though she couldn't swear to it. She'd made a messenger bag out of duct tape, and inside it was a yellow and black duct tape wallet. She just hadn't been able to help herself. Amusingly enough, they were very usable things, sturdy enough to hold up to hard use in Ariel's experience. "Hope you like them."

She watched Ariel produce a package from her bag, already touched because she'd probably made something. She was always making stuff, and it was still kind of amazing to Harley. When she opened it up, she saw the red and black bag and the wallet, her eyes going wide. "You are kidding me, A." Not only were they super-creative and well-made, but duct tape was kind of their thing, at least as far as Harley was concerned. She kept looking at them, a grin threatening to split her face wide open.
"These are fantastic," she said sincerely, leaning over to hug Ariel spontaneously. "Can't believe you thought of this. You're kind of insane."

She shook her head, laughing softly. "No, not shitting you, seriously. It is in fact made out of duct tape." She grinned. "I had no idea what to get you, and I was at the art store and happened to see the colored duct tape, and I thought of you immediately." She smirked slightly. Harley and duct tape kinda sorta really went together well.
She hugged Harley back tightly. "Well, it's you and duct tape," she said simply. "And I thought you'd get a kick out of it. Plus ya mentioned classes, so I thought you might need a bag." She'd initially thought of embroidering a bag or something, but this idea had been much better.

She laughed and took a drink of her beer. "Well mission accomplished, I'm definitely getting a kick out of this one," she said, slipping the bright yellow wallet into the bag. "I'm going to take a couple this fall, so this will be great for my books." She hadn't even thought about the fact that she might need a bag, which showed how used to being in school she was.

"Good, I hoped you would." Really hoped. If anything, she figured the use of duct tape would be appreciated. "So yeah. Happy Birthday, Harley. Let's make it many more." She hoped she'd be around to help celebrate them in the future, too.

"Thanks. I'm shooting for as many as I can. You do realize this means I have to outdo this for your birthday." She lifted a brow in challenge as she took another sip.
"Also, hope you don't think we're going to hold up this table all night. We're dancing our tails off."
Reply
"Naaaaah you don't," she said easily. Her birthday landing on Christmas, there was enough celebrating going around without making people do something for her birthday as well.
"Hell no we won't prop it up. Dancing is what we must do." She hadn't done much actual dancing ever since whatever it was she'd started to have with Cliff had petered out. She wasn't upset at it, honestly, just... vaguely saddened at times that she couldn't seem to hold onto anyone for any amount of time, outside of her couple of friends.

She glanced over and saw Thad heading towards the bar. Duck was heading their way, though, and she raised a hand to flag him down, wrinkling her nose upon noticing that he and Thad had already separated. So her plan hadn't exactly worked out. She sent him a significant look, but Duck only shrugged.
"Hey, Harley," he drawled, folding his lanky frame into a chair. "Nice table. Might hang over here for a while." It'd be better than trying to deal with all these people. He looked at Ariel and ducked his head. He'd seen her around a couple times, but had never really spoken to her much except maybe mumbling her way in passing.
"Heya."
Harley smiled faintly and took a pull from her beer, wondering how she'd managed to meet all these shy types. "Ariel, Duck, Duck, Ariel."

Ariel gave the newcomer to the table a bright and welcoming smile. She recognized him from where Harley worked, but she'd never really met him directly. He was very quiet, and Ariel often tended to respect that until she was formally introduced. "Nice to meet ya, Duck. I've seen you around some. So you gonna do some dancing with us tonight?"
Reply
Duck nodded. "Seen you around too," he said, pivoting towards her so he could watch her face and hear her a little better. He flushed and looked back towards the dance floor when she asked about dancing. "Guess so. This ain't my usual thing." He shrugged. "'m more into country."
"For some reason," Harley said, teasing them both.

She pulled a face at Harley, sticking out her tongue. "Someone just doesn't appreciate the finer aspects of country music," she said, sniffing and pretending to put her nose in the air, winking over at Duck.

Harley crossed her legs and slouched. "Yeah awesome, next year we'll make it a big old hoe-down," she quipped, but she was laughing.
He caught Ariel's wink. "But I could try this, since we're here and we can't prop up the table."
