Damien stood in the middle of the empty room feeling a strong sense of accomplishment. It was his. Granted, he didn’t own it, but as long as he paid his monthly rent, it was his. It was a large open space that would be perfect for the store portion, being able to display his larger pieces without getting crowded, which had been one of the more important things he’d considered when making his final decision on a place. And he really hadn’t found a more perfect place than this. There was also a large backroom area that would be perfect to set up his actual workshop in, and the living space upstairs was roomy and comfortable.
The rent was a little steep, but it was nothing he couldn’t manage, and once he got the store portion set up, he hoped he’d still be making a profit. And, if it took a little time to get there, he had plenty to keep afloat for a long time. He really wasn’t worried, especially since there were already several people interested in commission pieces. Very large commission pieces. Pieces that would definitely help in making a profit. Granted, there were things he needed to do before he could officially sell pieces in a store setting, but he was well versed in what it took to run a business, so he at least had a game plan.
He figured he’d take the next month or so to get everything set up, pick pieces from storage to display, and build up any other stock he wanted to have initially. And he’d also have to go through all the paperwork to have his business officially set up, but he’d work it all out. It was going to be good to get back to doing what he loved on a bigger scale, and having his own place was nothing to complain about, either. Not that he minded having Jasper as a roommate, but he knew that there wouldn’t be room for him in the apartment, because he had no doubt his best friend would get custody of the little girl.
Shaking himself from his thoughts, he decided he wanted to show off his new place, and if he could rope his friends into helping him with getting the place set up, well, it could only be a good thing. Starting with the painting, he decided. He pulled his phone out and went through his contacts, sending out a mass text message to his closer friends.
Painting party at my new workshop. Monday all day. There will be pizza and beer.
