"What? You've got to be kidding me!" Mackenzie yelled at the TV screen as Japan scored there first goal on the US. The nine year old was deeply invested in the World Cup game, had been pacing in the living room during the entire game, shouting and pulling faces at each missed opportunity the US had to score goal.
"C'mon, I could play a better game." She exclaimed, waving her hands at the screen. Before turning her attention on Ezra, who was the sole survivor in the living room. everyone else having been banished after they complained one to many times about Mack's shouting at the screen.
Ezra just laughed, shaking his head at his niece. "Mack, they're playing a good game." He countered, smiling faintly and waiting for something to be thrown at him for disagreeing with Mackenzie.
"But they could play better." Mackenzie shot back, rolling her eyes at Ezra. "I mean they've had like fifteen chances to score, and now the games tied." She wasn't whining, but Ezra was fairly certain it could reach that point if the US continued to play like this.
Mackenzie fell silent for awhile after that, transfixed on the game until it came to the end of overtime and the score was tied. "You've got to be kidding, it's going to come down to a shootout?" She paused, glancing at her uncle again. "This is fu-"
"Mackenzie!" Ezra warned, blue eyes serious as he gave her a stern look.
She just rolled her eyes at her Uncle. "Fine, this is stupidly ridiculous." Mackenzie huffed while pacing across the living room. "I mean all that work and it's coming down to a shootout?"
He just shook his head, amused by his niece's obvious displeasure with the state of the World Cup Final. Ezra kept silent though, well aware he could be banished from the room as easily as everyone else had been.
"C'mon Solo!" Mackenzie yelled throwing her hands up in the air when the third goal in the shootout slipped by the US goalkeeper, cementing Japan's win over the US. "I could have done a better job." the nine year old continued.
Ezra smirked. "Mack, you play forward." He reminded her, laughing softly. He avoided telling her that she was also a little young to be playing at that level, knowing the comment would receive a glare.
"So? Bet I could prove I could do better." Mackenzie scowled, flipping off the TV and heading towards the backdoor. "Mom says you played soccer, Uncle Ezra. So you can kick the ball at me." It wasn't a question really, Mackenzie wanted to prove something, and Ezra didn't have a choice in the matter.
"Yeah, I did Mack." Ezra replied, getting up off the couch and following her outside. "You really think you can prove a forward makes a better goalie?" He asked her as the slipped out into the backyard.
"Don't question my logic." Mackenzie replied, waving a hand at her Uncle as she located the soccer ball and made her way towards the goal they had set up in the backyard. "Now, less talking and more kicking." She barked as she took position in the goal.
"Whatever you say, Mackenzie." Ezra said, laughing softly as he began kicking the ball around, making his first shot. "After all, you're the one who's going to make it to the World Cup someday."
