Devri hadn't been entirely sure how she was going to spend a blessedly free friday night. She had thought briefly about spending it at the studio, but when Laine had given her a very pointed look after rehearsals, she had dashed that thought.

After receiving Nereida's text message Devri had sent her friend one back, thanking her for the invite and letting her know that maybe she would show. After that she had sent Laine a text asking her fellow ballerina if she wanted to go out dancing, since she had nixed her earlier option of extra rehearsal time.

Now in the club though, Devri wasn't sure she had made the right decision. She spotted Nereida on the dance floor already, catching her friend's attention she smiled and waved. Making a mental note to find out if the other woman's dance partner was the infamous Jase she had heard about on their shopping trip.

Fiddling with her dress as she made her way over to a table. Devri wondered if maybe she should have gone with the tank top and jeans. She'd have to give Laine a hard time once ( ... )

Laine had been relieved to see that Devri’s black Jeep wasn’t in the lot when she left the studio. Meant her friend had taken her look seriously. Good. She had even been surprised to receive a text from Devri inviting her out dancing. Had Hell frozen over? With a laugh she quickly texted back that she would love to, she just needed to change.

Deciding to leave her hair up in the lazy knot she’d been wearing for the better part of the day, she pulled her favorite black tank dress out of the closet and a pair of aqua sandals to match, hoping nobody would look at her feet too closely. She didn’t have time to paint her nails and there was an ugly bruise covering the top of her left foot from where Kris had stepped on her during rehearsal.

Once in the club she search the crowd for Dev’s familiar face; spotting her at a table she weaved her way over. “You wore it, love!” She exclaimed happily, and she had been right, the dress was so much better looking on Devri.

Smiling brightly at Laine, Devri hopped out of her seat to give the other woman a quick hug. "Figured I wouldn't hear the end of it if I didn't." She replied with a shrug as she sat back down. "Although I did seriously contemplate wearing jeans and a tank top." And she was maybe still wondering if that wouldn't have been a better idea, she felt a little unlike herself wearing the dress Laine had given her. "But the dress looked better with the flats Delaney gave me and insisted I wear the next time I went out."

Laine returned the hug and gave Dev a displeased look at the mention of wearing jeans and a tank out. “I’m glad you made the right decision, love. You look amazing.” And she bit back the comment about how long the shoes must have been sitting in the foot of Devri’s closet.

“Though, the whole point of going out dancing is to dance, and it’ll be bloody difficult to do seated at a table.” Laine bumped her shoulder against Dev’s playfully and debated nudging her towards the dance floor.

Fanning her hand at her neck dramatically as her partner laughingly handed her off the floor, Nereida hurried over to where Devri and another woman sat chatting. "Well, now!" She teasingly widened her eyes a bit at their pretty outfits, especially Devri's, since she had fully expected the other dancer to dress comfortably in jeans. "Aren't you a gorgeous sight? Did you get dressed up just for little me, Devri?" Laughing good-naturedly, she reached her arms out for a quick hug, then turned to the second young woman, hand outstretched. "I'm Nereida; thanks for coming out tonight."

Devri pulled a face at Laine's comment. "The dress looks amazing, I have nothing to do with that." she replied, still kind of wishing she would have gone with her more lowkey option. She felt she was wearing a costume, and noted that at least the dress was loose enough that she could hide her figure a bit. If the dress had been form fitting she wouldn't have worn it.

"Is that the point?" Devri teased, smirking as Laine bumped her shoulder. "First I need someone to show me how, I've never been salsa dancing." She replied honestly. Ballet was one thing, but she had never branched out much further then that.

Her grin was bright as Nereida hurried over to their table, laughing at her friend's comment. "Thank you, the dress is all thanks to Laine though. She gave it too me and made it pretty clear I was to wear it the next time I went out." She replied as she returned Nereida's hug. "And I figured I'd have to do something to even compare to how amazing you look." Devri waved a hand in Nereida's direction, indicating the other woman's ( ... )

“You have everything to do with it, Devri York.” Laine shot back, shaking her head as Devri deflected the compliment. One of these days she would get her friend to accept she was gorgeous.

Laine watched the interaction between the two women then took Nereida’s outstretched hand when it was offered . “Laine, and I wouldn’t have missed this.” She replied with a smile, and then inclined her head towards Devri. “I needed to see that this one is actually capable of going out and having fun, though I think she’s intending to use the excuse that she doesn’t know how to salsa to avoid dancing tonight.”

"I see I'm going to be totally outshone tonight," she said, putting the back of her hand over her eyes. "Whatever will I do, with you two stealing all the boys? I'll have to dance all by myself." Giggling, she shook her head. "No, he's apparently a regular here. Jase is over there." Nereida pointed him out, grabbing drinks from the bar for himself and Adrienne. "The tall blond man near the end of the bar."

Grinning conspiratorially at Laine, she leaned in a bit. "Ah, but I'm a dance teacher -- she can't use that line on me, because I'll just take her out on the floor and show her what to do." Winking at Devri, she waggled her eyebrows. "You don't have to do a lot of dancing, but I'm claiming at least one, so be warned."

"Whatever you say." Devri replied with a shrug. She wasn't going to argue with Laine about this. It wasn't that she didn't know or think she was attractive, but having attention drawn to her looks made her uneasy because there could always be the odd comment on her figure or weight; those were the comments she didn't want ( ... )

Laine craned her head to look at the bar, spotting who Devri and Nereida were talking about. “I promise not to steal that one, how does that sound?” She said as she turned back around. “Though, if you could point out the dance partners to avoid, I would appreciate it.” Her feet just could not handle being tromped on tonight.

Laine laughed at what Nereida said and Devri’s response. “Love, you were already seated when I came in. It was an easy assumption to make. And because every other time I’ve invited you out dancing you act as if it’s the worst thing you could be doing.”

Giving Devri a thumbs-up, she snickered. "Just letting you know now. And trust me, Jase knows the ladies give him a second look. But he's picked up some basic steps pretty quick, so you could take a turn around the floor with him and your feet would be safe."

An impish grin lighting her face, she leaned in closer to Laine. "See the guy in the black button-down and gray pants over there? Total toe-masher. Thinks he's Fred Astaire, but I've managed to avoid him so far, after seeing the way girls have been wincing as they go around with him. Oh, and the guy at the bar in the green t-shirt and jeans, talking to the brunette in the yellow dress -- he seems to like pulling weird footwork all of a sudden, and I nearly got my leg kicked out from under me. Try not to dance with him." She shrugged expansively, laughing gaily. "Other than that, have at 'em, ladies. Though the guy over there, in the white button-down and khakis? He dances like a dream. And so nice! He's a regular, he said." Tossing her hair back over her shoulder ( ... )

Devri just shrugged off Laine's comment. "I was seated because I was politely waiting for you. And did it ever cross your mind that maybe I haven't agreed to go out with the company dancers because I see enough of you guys as it is ( ... )

Laine leaned her elbows on the table, listening raptly to Nereida’s information and making sure that she would remember the men to avoid; she didn’t usually need to search out dance partners, but at least now she knew who to say ‘no’ to. “Thanks for the information, love.” She said with a smile. “Don’t think I need a drink quite yet, so think I’ll be finding myself somebody to dance with.” Laine slid off her chair and smoothed down the front of her dress, sighing exasperatedly at Devri. “Do whatever you please, just, don’t sit her all evening.” She told her friend.

"Hey, if I can save your poor toes some trampling, all the better," she agreed with a nod. "Dev, you might like the one over there in the purple shirt. See the one talking to the hostess at the door? He's very quiet, but he's good. And I noticed him showing a couple of new girls the steps, so if you wanted to dance with someone after I show you some basics..." Nereida smiled at her reassuringly. "Nah, won't chew you out. I'm just glad you decided to come out, really!"

She waggled her eyebrows at Laine as the other woman rose. "Have fun! Let me know if you find any other really good dancers, because I definitely haven't met them all. Just did a little bit of recon."

Devri smiled at Laine. "And what would you do if I did sit here all night?" she asked, honestly curious as to what Laine would really do. Turning her attention back to Nereida she laughed. "All the better, indeed." She listened as Nereida pointed out a prospective dance partner to her. "Quiet? So we'll make a great pair, won't say a word to each other." Devri laughed, knowing her friend meant well. "Honestly, I'm glad I came out as well. My night was going to consist of rereading a book I've ready a million times, and although that wouldn't be terrible, this is filling my 'being social' quota for the week." She confessed with a faint grin.

“You’ll be the first person I tell, love.” Laine told Nereida with one last smile, before turning to roll her eyes at Dev. “As for you. You sit here all evening and I’ll purposely send all the terrible dancers your way with the information that you’re single and lonely.” She gave Devri as serious of a look as she could muster, before heading off to find a willing partner.
